They were always an option for chaos, but as far back as the 3rd ed codex there had not been cultist IN the actual codex. They were a white dwarf add on and then in the Eye of Terror campaign book as the lost and the damned. If I remember correctly in 2nd they had their own book. There was a codex for Chaos Marines, Cultist, and Demons. All that tells me is that I can not gleam any information on what direction they are going with this codex.

Army's used: Space Wolves, Tomb Kings, High Elves, Tyranids, Tau and Eldar.

My single biggest gripe with those rumors is the loss of Dreadnoughts. I REALLY hope this is false, Chaos have always had them, in game and lore, so removing them would be complete garbage. Even if they were still useless in game, keep them in the dex, just so we can have them in friendly games for s**ts and giggles.

I do like the idea of cultist troops/zombies for Typhus though...

Typhus making zombies would make me pretty happy, but I don't like the rumors because.... I'd probably be the only one that would like the book.

Another rumor on BoLS has the suspected Models for 6th Starter and 1 is a plastic Chaos Dread. So i dont think you will have to worry about it going away. I would link this but i am at work and BoLS is blocked.

i think what it meant was that they will still be Dreadnaughts but will be called something different and may be more akin to Daemon engines

Yeah, but I still like the Dreads, I think they go well with Chaos, they seem much more chaos-y than imperium-y. hah

I won't worry to hard, but I just hope we don't lose them, in name/feel or especially in model style.

    Something that DAMO.R said-

I also wondered why GW didn't allow daemons to take icons in the 4th edition codex. It just seems like it would have been intuitive. It would have had little impact on the game in total, but it would have allowed a little more diversity in the codex and would have made a lot of players happy.

yes. i think with CL they should:

    1. keep them as lesser Daemons but allow for different marks, thus keeping it seperate from the daemons codex

    2. Bring back Cultists and allow Typhus to take them as zombies (could possibly mean plastic Cultist/Zombie kit :p )

    3. Have the book clearly split into the seperate legions to avoid confusion

    4. Have at least 2 special characters for the 5 main legions and 1 each for any lesser legions.

    5. Have more Daemon engines and make Chaos Dreds better

    6. Make sure the book is equal to the SM codex in size or even bigger would be better

    7. Keep Matt Ward away from it!!!

    8. Make sure the initial release is accompanied by plastic kits for all the basic troop options (like i have said before as things are at the moment i wont be surprised if all the units like Noise Marines, Berserkers, Plague marines and Thousand sons are condensed into 5 man either/or kits)

Actually they could do this with termies aswell, keep the current kit as generic chaos termies for Black legion and others like Word bearers and Iron Warriors and then have a seperate termie kit with various legion specific options like Sonic blasters, Dual Chainaxes, Rubrik upgrades and toxic heavy Flamers or something.

GW should pay me for thinking up these things!

It is about time we get some information on the new Chaos Space Marine codex. Before we get right into let us start out with some ground rules.
The Chaos Space Marine codex is the only 40k codex for this year. It is not going to be divided into two codexes or anything special. This is not the return 3.5 codex everyone has been wanting this is more a clean up than anything else.
With that said let us get started.

Troops choices will be Chaos Space Marines and Cultists
    All Cult Marines are Elites
    No new Special Characters
Special Characters will unlock Cult Marines as troops (Kharn for Berserkers and so on)
    Typhus makes Cultists into Zombies
Chaos Dreadnaught is removed and replaced with a new unit (like how pariahs were replaced with Lychguard)
CSM now get a Flyer a Mechanical Chaos Dragon (model is done will be part of initial release)
Lesser and Greater Demons are gone
    Spawn replaced by “Fell Beast”

    I feel like I am missing something…
    Oh yeah…
    Almost Forgot...
Rules for Traitor Guard are in!"

I really don't like the idea of cultist & traitor guard at all in an MEQ book because it's game-breaking. (look at henchmen + purifyer spam...)
MEQ's biggest weakness is their elite nature and low model count. Giving them hordes of GEQ's 100% removes that built-in balancing check because now you can take the number to prop-up your expensive main troops.

Removing daemons entirely? Bye-bye Word Bearers, there goes your identity.

Only SC's can unlock cult units as Troops? Hopefully basic Lords with the appropriate mark get this option too, otherwise we're about to see chaos become codex: special character + friends! *sigh* so now Typhus leads every single Deathguard raid, and apparently Kharn has kissed and made-up with his Worldeater buddies, because only he leads them now...

Why am I getting the sinking feeling that Chaos just got Ward'ed with a side of Crud?
I really have my doubts on most of that, daemons I can see getting removed after what happened to WoC, dreads getting removed, I really doubt it, your going to have a lot of pissed of customers with FW kits, traitor guard I doubt, I thought GW didn't any sort of cross over? Kharn being the only way to do a berzerker army, again I highly doubt this, makes no sense really, why can't you have a berzerker army lead by a khorne daemon prince??

None of that seems to mesh with any of the other rumours we've been hearing. Traitor Guard and Cultists are simply far too similar to be both included in the Legions book, and Traitor Guard cannot be properly compatible fluff-wise with the Traitor Legions. Cultists can, because there are previous examples: zombies for Death Guard, meatshields for Word Bearers, specialist spies for Alpha Legion, cannon fodder for Iron Warriors, etc etc. No where can I think of defected Guardsmen serving as members or even servants of Legions, they tend to stick to their own formations, maybe with a handful of Astartes as leaders and enforcers.

Dreadnoughts have to stay in, along with daemons. Both of those are iconic Chaos units, and to remove them would not only invalidate model lines (Dreads) but also remove the daemonic flavour of the Chaos Legions.

A mechanical Chaos Dragon? Yeah, right, I'll believe it only when I see it on shelves. That's far too Fantasy Battle than 40k, especially since Chaos isn't known for making animalistic vehicles. I honestly can't think of a single Chaos vehicle that is based on an animal.

The Cult Troops are some of the most popular models GW has, I highly doubt they will become unlockable only with Special Characters; maybe only mark Lords/Princes/Sorcerers will unlock them, but only specific models? Yeah, I don't think so. Yes, GW did that with Inquistorial forces in Grey Knights, but A: that was Matt Ward, who I think has learned his lesson, as evidenced by the Necron codex lacking that feature, and B: that would make regular Lord obsolete, with absolutely no redeeming value, and finally C: think of all the marked Lord models there are, and I doubt that GW will simply dump those models out the window.

In a similar vein, no new Special Characters? EVERY single new codex has had new special characters, even the Sisters of Battle White Dwarf codex has new characters! To think that Chaos won't have new ones is simply ridiculous, especially since this is supposed to be Chaos Legions, with special rules and units put in specifically for specific Legions!

To sum up, I call shenanigans. These rumours are trolling, absurdly negative predictions, and/or depressing and biased thoughts about the future of the Chaos line. It flies in the face of not only every single rumour, but suggests that GW is trying to scale back on Chaos, when most rumours are saying that 6th edition will be the edition where Chaos becomes the uber-bad guy and start running wild across the galaxy, like the Tyranids were for 5th (seriously, how many times are they mentioned in other codexes? Tyranids, though not imposing as they could be on the tabletop, are the big bads fluff-wise for this edition). While some people say that 4th edition codex was a step backwards for Chaos, it wasn't, it was simply shifting the focus from Legions to renegades. Now, the very name of the book says that the focus is shifting back to Legions, so I call these 'rumours' to be total crap.
