Paint scheme doesn't effect rules, the tyranid codex even goes as far as to say some characters like the Doom of Malati may appear in other hive fleets than their own because other fleets may have a monster of similar abilities. If special characters can be played with different coloured skin then regular Joe heretics will be able to be played with fancy armour.

I'm still pissed at the fact they "revised" lost and the damned and you can now only use them in apocolypse. As for you army I wouldn't worry I sometimes play Crimson Fists ad black templars if your opponent has a problem with it is he really worth playing?

What could happen is that depending on the legion you choose it could limit the choices you can field because certain legions favored some units and lacked others.
I agree this is what put me of chaos for a long time i like the legions but i like to make my own mark i have my own craft world my own renegade chapter and ork tribe.

And Munch, Have you ever had problems coming up against opponents that don't want to play against your own army?

I feel so naive from the start. for the older players if you remember the "Special characters" in 3rd and some 4th edition books you had to ask for opponents permission? I never said no lol even if it was my chaos lord against say Arhiman and Doomrider, or calgar and Tigiurus

Me and my buddies always assumed the other didn't care if we did or not, that said, we rarely used special characters to begin with...
