What Legion should i roll? Talking about strongly themed 1k-1.5k games.

So , im new to the game and i want to make a chaos marine warband based on the original Traitor Legions. Im not sure which though... Besides the Emperor's Children and Black Legion , i like the idea of all of them. Im also not making a "colourful army". I mean i dont want an army with zerkers and noise marines walking side by side. Id like a strongly themed army. The gameplay im thinking about is:

    1) A rather durable army that gets to business fasts and hits hard. I prefer CC but im not obliged to it , maybe a combo of CC and some range is the best. Im also not into cannon foder tacts , i like to have the precious few,
    OR
    2) A "control" army that messes up with my enemies tactics , ruining his plans and all. For those of you who play Magic the Gathering , i have in mind a Blue/Black deck. I think this says it all. Here ill also insist on avoiding the cannon foder shit.

Im playing with my lady and a group of friends so its not like i want a tournament winner army , just a fun army that has good potential to win games. So , if u guys can give me some tips it would be great cause i cant decide

If you're wanting shooting and CC ability then tbh the Emperor's Children is a good option. It's what I run, and I just have two units of Noise Marines for Troops. The rest is whatever I feel like bringing to the fray, but usually includes Terminators, Obliterators and Lucius. I too am not one for having a mishmash of Berserkers/Noise Marines/1k Sons/Plague Marines in one army, and I particularly like the Slaanesh icon benefit which I think is possibly the best one. Everyone going at the same time as the opponent's Commanders and then before the rest of their units almost without exception? Yes please.

Bear in mind that this was kind of a biased answer!

Yeah well the problem is that i really hate the Emperor's Children and everything that has to do with slaanesh... Its quite ironic cause im aware that my playstyle fits well with his..Im not so interested on weather ill have 2 CC units and one range or the opposite , im mostly interested in waging war fast and hard or playing with a "control" army that ****s up the tacts of my enemy.

While I do think that all Legion's are interesting to play, some are easier to play to their full potential. World Eaters, Death Guard and Thousand Sons can all be represented by taking their respective cult units, Marks on certain models/units and a certain playstyle.

Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion and Word Bearers are a bit more difficult: they don't have specific cult troops, but are characterized by certain FOC-choices and probably the paint scheme you choose. They might get some extras with the 6th edition codex, but for now, you have to go for fluff with them.

Im Reading a Book on Word Bearers along with building a force. Word Bearers are heavy on Chaos Icons, Possessed, Dreadknoughts, Deamon engines (Defilers and possessed vindicators), and using Cultist and Deamons (its not like they die). The also seem to favor havocs and terminators.

Theres also Alpha Legion, Heavy on Out flanking, deep striking, Chossen,

And Iron warroirs, Special weapons, Vindactors, any heavy support.

The style you suggested screams Night lords, Fast, hits hard, not a fan of casualtys and a nightmare to play against, also they march in dark blue

World eaters hit hard in cc, and aren't any softer than the others. That's where my (slightly biased) vote was. I don't have an army of them, but KB just kill almost anything, so they're great fun to use.

My honest opinion would be to wait a couple months. According to a lot of the rumors out there Chaos will be getting an update shortly after 6th ed hits. I would suggest waiting on the legion till after the new book as options and play styles may change.

Personally I got into Chaos back in 3rd ed because of the World Eaters. Chain Axes were awesome and being a monster in close combat was pretty neat. Kharn has a lot of character in his backstory/fan-fic and even in how he plays on the table. They were (and may be again) anti-psyker, they rely 100% on their marshal prowess and take great pride and honor in the fight it self. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! Maim, Kill, Burn!

I was going to cast my vote for the Night Lords as well, but sadly they didn't even make the list! But as mentioned above, I'd wait as well for developing a feel for the new rules and the new codex *fingers crossed!*

Its a pity you don't like Emperors Children. I have an EC CSM army full of Noise marines with Lash Princes, it excels at the 'mess with your opponent' tactics- Oh so you are sitting on that objective in cover? Not any more, you are now in the open and I am about to shoot a bucket load of dice at you including an AP3 template...

I would wait until the imminent 6th ed and new Codex, if rumours are true there is going to be all sorts of good new stuff for us- and with potential new rules like Impact hits for jump infantry etc. a hard hitting elite CSM army might be viable, whichever Legion you end up with.

I also prefer a strongly themed army, so if I were you i'd read up the fluff of the individual legions and pick one who sound like they would like to fit your individual playstyle (and who you like the look of, nothing worse than painting a colourscheme you aren't fond of!) from what you have said I'd edge towards Alpha Legion maybe?
