I think I may have changed my mind, both for tactical and personal reasons. At first, I thought it would be cool to do a Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons army to go with my current Thousand Sons army, sort of like having a flashback sequence for my Daemon Prince. On the other hand, the more I thought about it the more I started to get bored by the idea as I've been working with psyker Marines almost since I started 40k. I've decided to do something a little different for a change and I think I will change my Legion to Iron Warriors. As for the army design itself, I will be building a Drop Pod Assault army that, admittedly, was partially inspired by my re-reading of Storm of Iron. Who says Iron Warriors can't be aggressive? What do people think of the Red Scorpion upgrade kits from Forge World? Are they good enough to represent MkIV power armour or should I look elsewhere? |

It's the best and easiest way to make PH marines Nite, if not a bit expensive. The quality is very good, I just wish you could only get heads, since I have no use for the shoulder pads or anything. Iron Warriors would be cool to see in the PH time line, an interesting choice that I look forward to seeing Nite. Alpha Legion was one of my original choices SWAT, along with Imp. Fist lol. I might work on one of them once EC is done, or possibly switch since we have another EC. But I do so love them =P got bored and decided to form some house rules for Lucius, here's my take. Lucius, Captain of the 13th: - pts.? WS: 6. BS: 4. S: 4. T: 4. I: 5. A: 4. W: 2. Ld: 9. Equipment: Master Crafted Power Sword, Lightning reflexes (Combat Shield), Frag & Krak grenades. Special rules: I'll show Tarvitz!: Lucius and any unit he joins has Furious Charge, if any non-vehicle unit is within charge range of Lucius, he must charge them. Not worthy: Lucius despises rank and file troops, finding their deaths a waste of his time. Anytime Lucius is in combat with a model with WS4 or lower, reduce his WS and A by one. Finally a challenge!: On the rare occassion that Lucius does find a worthy opponent, he lets all out, showing his true skill under pressure. If Lucius is in combat with an opposing model that has a WS of 5 or more and multiple wounds, he may issue a special challenge. Lucius and the model will duel, and until one dies they may not be attacked by other opposing models. During the duration of the challenge Lucius has +1 A if the model has a WS equal to or greater than his. Traitor in the midst: Lucius is stubborn, and constantly shifting his alliances. After the third turn make a Leadership test for Lucius, deducting one point for each turn thereafter. If failed Lucius will lose interest in his current loyalties and spring to attack. Lucius must immediatly strike the unit he is with, with no attacks back. At the end of this action Lucius returns to normal. What do you peeps think? I'm stumped on a point cost and whether or not to give him a Jet Pack, since he did lead an assault unit. Rules I fairly like, but it seems like a lot. -K

Nite, sounds good to me! Drop Pods are cool. I'm using the Red Scorp kits myself, actually. It is a tad bit expensive, but is worth it. -J

I've hammered out a plan for what I want to include in my Pre-Heresy Iron Warriors army. I've envisioned it as a preliminary assault force that will secure a foothold on a planet prior to a full combat deployment of the Legion in order to crush the enemy completely. It doesn't have the specialised siege equipment of the other Iron Warriors Grand Companies but more than makes up for that in its ability to grind down all opposition. Traits: - Scions of Mars (The Warsmith that spearheads the assault has recieved extensive training from the Mechanicum and tends to the Machine Spirits of the Drop Pods both before and after the operation is conducted) - Have Faith in Suspicion (The Iron Warriors are a cold and paranoid legion that prefer to trust logic and their wargear over the immaterial powers of the Warp. They bear no true hatred towards psykers, though, and see them as a tool, like any other.) 1 Warsmith (Techmarine HQ) 5 Terminators w/2x Cyclone Missile Launchers, Tank Hunters, Drop Pod (the Assault Cannon is still a fairly new innovation at this point and is quite tempermental) 3 Tactical Squads w/Meltagun, Drop Pod 2 Tactical Squads w/Plasma Gun, Drop Pod All plausible? Comments and such welcome. Also, tips for modelling pre-heresy Terminators would be most appreciated. And now, as it's 2:30am, I shall need to get some sleep. |

Looks good, but no Speeders or Dreds? They can drop, and Dreds just scream Iron Warriors to me Nite. I think one or two would be cool.

Speeders drop from high altitude rather than orbit and it's a rather complicated aerial maneuver to pull off; it doesn't seem like something the Iron Warriors would bother with simply for the fact that it's not practical. Seems like something the White Scars would try. As for Dreadnoughts, I have no idea how I would model a pre-Heresy Iron Warriors Dreadnought so any tips on that may change my mind.

Forgeworld has an awesome Mark IV dred kit which I plan to order, it's the old school look and stuff. For conversion purposes WD #300 has a guy converting Mark IV's for his preatorian force, and they look good but seem complicated unless you can work plasticard well.
