    The anime clan

Welcome to a place called the anime clan, here you will be driven crazy (if not already) by talk of bizzare anime and more serious stuff too. There are no ranks an all are equal in this clan. To join simply post a list of your favourite anime. May the super fun happy hour never end.

    Ace of Spades ^_^

Well seeing that I and many other LO people love anime I decide to put this up. Is it true that there used to be an anime clan and an anti-anime clan? I heard that the anime clan was shut down for some reason (mabye flamers). Any way here is the place to talk about anime.

That's true, there have been a couple of anime clans, and the anti-anime clan, which was a pretty childish idea.

I keep seeing this anime in the shop called "Oustanding Space Pirate Captain Tyler" or something. It seems vaguely familiar from my childhood but I could be wrong. I like that old school robotech/castle of cagliostro style art.

Anyone seen this one, and is it worth watching?

ps Perturabo, the anti-anime clan was a good place to vent about sucky anime. Come on, admit it, some anime truly does suck...

True, but some people did just flame anime in general, and the members of the anime clan, but I did not mean to offend anyone.

Eh..you refering to Irrepsonsible Captain Tylor or Space Pirate Captain Herlock? I haven't seen either, but appearently the first is a comedy about an apethetic slacker that manages to inheret command of a battleship and turns out to be a rather succesful captain and the second is an action show about a complete badass who gos around rebeling against pretty much anything he can find.

    Mmm, ramen!

    Here's my favorite recipe:

Use brand names mentioned when possible as anything else just doesn't measure up in my book!

    'Ramen ala Joker'

2 pack of 'Oodles of Noodles' brand, chicken flavored ramen.

2 cups of canned (I use 'Veg-All' brand) mixed vegetables.

3 thick slices of 'Velveeta' brand cheese.

Boil 6 cups of water add both packs of Ramen and let boil for 5 minutes (that's right 5! I don't give a damn what the pack says! I'm livin' on the edge here! )

After 5 minutes drain off all but 2 cups of the boiled water and add the flavor packets, mixed vegetables, and all 3 slices of cheese.

Stir together until the cheese is all melted and you have a sort of 'cheesy chicken soupy' consistency.

Serve with your favorite brand of crackers or buttered bread.

Serves 4 barely; 2 adequately; and 1 if you are really, really hungry.

    Now to the Anime:

Can anyone tell me how many episodes there are to the 'Berserk' series?

I've seen about 10 episodes from my local Blockbuster and I am absolutely hooked!

Plus, can you recommend any good anime that doesn't have any 'porn' type themes?

Leave out : Akira, and Princess Mononoke, and Vampire Hunter D as I have seen those. I have probably seen a few that will also get mentioned, but those 3 always come up for some reason whenever Anime is discussed.

Thanks for any help, and enjoy your 'Ramen ala Joker'! ^_^

Chicken's good, but I prefer Edi's Beth Special..thusly named because I make it for my girlfreind all the time and she loves it. What you need its

2 Packets Maru Chan ramen (shrimp flavoured)
3 cups white Rice (Mahatma rice is good, I know all rice is the same, but I like the little dude on the bag ^_^)
1 Bag frozen shrimp (Kroger sells 'em cheap here in the states)

All you do is cook the ramen and rice as normal (I suggets investing in a rice cooker, these things rawk! Thaw out the shrimp and peel it, them fill a bowl halfway up with the rice, dump a layer of ramen on top, and then toss in a few shrimp. Toss the whole thing in the microwave for about 5 seconds (this warms the shrimp and changes the texture of the rice and the ramen to give it a more "fired" taste). then your done!

    It serves about 2.

As far as Berserk it's 25 episodes long. I have all but the last 5 episodes. It's a pretty good series. Not a lot of thinking involved but plenty of good old fashioned violence. It's hard to find anime that doesn't have at least a few nods to "fan service". The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the popular ones. Gundam series are generaly good (anything except G Gundam..blech!), Cowboy Bebop has a few sexual themes but they're handled pretty well. I dunno..I'll have to browse through my library when I get home. >.0

    Oops.

I guess I should say that some nudity and adult themes are all right.

I just don't want to watch outright porn.

I got hooked on Berserk because of the art style (go figure, it just hit me the right way when I watched it) and most of the story is predictable with a 'been there done that' type of feel.

But it's addictive in a 'Soap Opera' kind of way.

The most annoying tendencies for Japanese anime imo (other than the kiddie porn themes) is when they turn the entire characters head into one giant 'laughing or shrieking mouth with rain drops spraying everywhere' in an attempt to convey intense emotion or whatever.

So try to leave those recommendations that use that art style off the list if you can, please.

And thx for the recipe, I'm going to try that!
