Codicies both past and present are the best bet, as well as rulebooks. Understand that as far as fluff is concerned it rates:
    - Present Codecies and Rulebooks
    - Previous Codecies and Rulebooks
    - White Dwarf (if you can even find fluff there these days)
    - Forgeworld publications (IA, Xenos, etc)
    - Lexicanum and Black Library
I rate Lex and BL on the same, and the bottom, because Lex pulls from all of the above sources and Black Library. Black Library is dubious, because there are some terrible writers in there who have done some fairly stupid things (Space Marines with Shuriken Cannons and MultiLasers). Typically, Black Library is only "official" if you can't find information pertaining to the question anywhere else (Soul Drinkers, for example, cannot be found in GW publications).

This is what I can get from Abnett's "Eisenhorn" and my Codex: Eye of Terror.

Thracian Primaris is a Hive World, with 70% of the surface covered in hive cities. It is the capital world of the Helican Subsector, within the larger Segmentum Obscurus.

The most notable landmark and event of the planet is the kilometer-wide "Avenue of the Victor Bellum" which ends at the "Spatian Gate". In true 40k fashion, the dome of the gate is so large and so tall, that it has it's own local weather patterns (there is outdoor type weather inside the building). After quelling a system-wide civil war, Lord Helican marched the White Scars, Aurora Chapter, 100-500k Guardsmen, 300 Inquisitors (including Eisenhorn and Ravenor), and a few dozen Titans down the Avenue. Chaos raiders strafed the parade with fighter craft, even crashing the aircraft into the parade-ranks when they were damaged or out of ammunition. This resulted in a colossal number of casualties among the Marines, Guard, Inquisitors, and civilian parade-goers. Ravenor was wounded almost unto death, while Eisenhorn mysteriously escaped unscathed. The planet was thrown into an outraged riot, worsened by the escape of more than 30 Alpha-level Psykers from the prisoners on display at the victory demonstration.

perfect Thank you for the info Captain! This is a perfect setting for a short story for one of my characters, especially if the riot and such has not been dealt with yet.

Nah, they've handled the riots, the planet is calmed down now and plodding along just like any typical Imperial world. There's no reason that you couldn't still set your story during the riots, it would just be "historical" by this point in the 40k timeline.

Hi. I'm new to the forum and, as such, this is my first ever post
There are a lot of pages in this thread and I must admit to not having read many of them, so i apologise if you've already answered these questions.
I'm making a chaos band and have two questions in reference to where they should have their home.

question 1: Are all planets in the eye of terror mapped, or is it plausible to invent my own little bastion of evil?
question 2: Do you think a space hulk, albeit a heavily moddified one, would have sufficient space to store an apocalypse sized chaos army, not counting demons?

Hey there Mighty Falcon, welcome to LO! I'm not sure that we've answered those questions either, but I think that I can lend a hand.

    1. No - the worlds within the Eye are not mapped out, officially, or in the fluff. The fluff mostly centers on the Imperium, and most of the Imperials who've entered the Eye haven't returned. Those who did return, didn't stay long. The Eye of Terror is a massive hole in reality - it leads directly into the Warp. Whenever you watch a SciFi movie and a space ship jumps into slipstream/warpspace/hyerdrive and leaves a huge gaping hole behind it - that's the Eye of Terror. On the other side is the stuff of pure Chaos, the immaterial world where dreams and psychic powers are born. A powerful enough Daemon could probably mold this raw essence to his will and simply create a planet (or something like one), and as most of the "planets" are just adrift in the sea of Chaos, there's no way of really counting or mapping them.

    2. There have been chapters who existed on Space Hulks, but I don't know what you mean by Apocalypse-sized. In the fluff, Apoc games are usually fought between several companies from several chapters of Marines. The 'Soul Drinkers' books have the chapter stationed on the space hulk 'Broken Back,' but the chapter is also at less than half strength and has little-to-no tank or armor support. Space Hulks are (usually) just drifting wrecks of other ships, so if you imagine that a capital ship in Battlefleet Gothic doesn't carry a chapter, and a Space Marine Battle Barge only carries a Company, you start to get a picture of size. Yes, I'm sure that it would be possible to fit a chapter of a 1000 marines into some hulks, but remember that most Chaos Marine forces are comprised of whole Legions. Also, many of these legions escaped with their own ships still intact during the Heresy, and later, during the Gothic War and other battles waged across the Imperium. In fact, in the BFG game, Chaos fleets are often crewed by Space Marines, and their rules are used to represent Heresy-era loyalist vessels.

I hope this helps you somewhat.

    Hi Guys,

I recently stumbled upon my old 40k stuff, and after reminicing for some hours i also started reading the horus hersy, and took a few start up games with my young son and kinda got back into the background (havn't played for the better part of 20 years) and realised that a lot has happened in the universe since back then :-)

So a lot of questions and general wondering started poping up and thats where you (hopefully) come in... :-)

So without further a do, here goes the first batch:

    1. Chaos gods can kill off their champions whenever they decide that their purpose has been fullfilled. BUT what happens if the champion is not tied to a specific god, but is chaos undevided? (sort of like Horus or Abaddon?) wouldn't it be possible for the other gods to protect the champ against the one wanting to kill him off?

    2. Space Marines: Do you think there would be interchapter prejudice from first founding chapters against younger chapters? is there more prestige in being older? or are they all just one happy bunch of brothers...

    3. I really like the whole slide into chaos thing and would like to have this as a background for both my chaos marines and space marines (possibly) have them being the same chapter in different time era's. I'am getting the story together but there are a few questions I need to have solved in regard to this:
    a. Nowadays in the 40k universe do chapters still fall to chaos as a unit? - or is this unheard off?
    b. How depleated must they become before they are considered disbanded or are they always rebuild? - and what then happens? who passes the dissision to disband and who enforces it?

The idea, to put it into context is to have a chapter fight a prolonged campaign somewhere, recieving heavy losses including the lord commander, the next in line and the theird in line pushing a young captain to the possition. He will then be torn by thde responsibility of both winning the campaign and preserving the chapter and in this process slide further and further towards chaos without really realising it. So in other words i want the story about a dieing "good" chapter becomming evil for all the "right" reasons so to speak :-)

Well i have a whole bunch of otherquestions, but i hope you can help out with this first. Much thanx in advance :-)
