Hmm wich chart do you mean? the one with the ship directions and a bunch of numbers on it? or the one with numbers down the side going from 2 to 12? Or something else. . .? Hmm there are a good number of charts in BFG now that I think about it.

OK I thought it might be that one. . . Figureing that thing out is a bit tricky.
I'm going to try to very basic cause I've no idea where the holdup is among a vast number of possablities.

First you need to understand ship facing

    ........Closing
    ........\......../
    ......... \..../
    Abeem. X Abeem
    ........../....\
    ......../........\
........(going away can't remember what they call it.)

OK you look at the ship you are shooting at and figure out wich arc you're firing into and the size of the ship: capital or escort
On the top of the chart there are rows for both capital ships, and escorts. Allong the row that your ship size is in: find the collum that has the arc you are shooting at. This is the collum you are going to be looking up your basic shots.
Next go down rows on this collum untill you find the row matching the amount of firepower that the battery you shooting has.

OK now it gets a little complicated: that's for a basic shot, there are other cases. Collum shifts: for each collum shift note the position of your basic shot, but rather than taking it, take the result to the left or right (depending on the direction of the collum shift) of it. Two Collum shifts move 2 left or 2 right. If you get to the ordinance or the defence collums however you've moved as far as you can go.

Lastly if firing at ordinence or defences use their collum's bothering with direction and ship class.

That's about as good as I can do without pointing it all out to you in person with the chart in sight. (Wich by the way was the way it was explained to me, I bet it makes it a lot easier.)

We need a guide on that chart I reckon.. I've seen the same question asked several times since I started viewing the BFG forum, it got me confused to start with too.

Hmm I'm guessing I lost ya. Anybody else want to take a shot at it?

The answer to your last question is that excorts are their own squadren.

Heres my explanation from an old thread:

First look down the left column to what firepower you have. Eg. Firepower 8 from your guns, go down to the row that starts with 8.

Then look at the first 3 rows, closing, moving away and abeam. Get the row that your target is on, say its moving away.

Then move across that row to reach your target type, out of capital ships or escorts.

And finally move down the column from there back to the original row where your firepower number was, and that is the firepower you use. In the example I was giving, if it was a capital ship the firepower ends up at 4.

    Hope that helps
    Thread.

Its a bit briefer, and I didn't read the above one too well so not sure if it compares.. Maybe it'll help though.
