Greetings to all spacefaring folk.

After much discussion and support, witness the creation of the Pirate's Haven clan. This clan is for Battlefleet Gothic Players. Anyone interested in BFG is welcome to join. The clan will be a LO based club to promote the game sytem and create an article base for Battlefleet Gothic. To join, simply PM me and then post some info about yourself on this thread. For the moment, we are simply gathering info on members. Ranks and titles will be applied soon.

When posting about yourself, I need to know:

Where you are from (so we have a rough Idea of the spread of "the clan")
What fleets you collect.
What your specialism is in BFG (e.g. painting, tactis, scenery etc.)
Whether you would write an article at some point.
If you have a games workshop store/ gaming club near you.

It would be nice If peolple could submit articles according to their specialism/ fleet. New players are not excluded from this as even a "Why I got into BFG" article would be invaluable to potential players. So for example:

Username: Will J.
Location: Abergavenny, Wales, UK.
Fleets: Imperial, Chaos, Eldar.
Specialism: Painting and Scenery.
Article potential: Scenery articles.
Local GW store/ Gaming club: GW Cardiff.

So if you are interested in being a part of a BFG online community, please feel free to join up and post in the BFG forum or this thread from time to time.

Article Potential: Have written articles in the past, but I'm at uni so may not have time. Definite maybe.
Local GW store: Theres 3 in my city each around the same distance. Marion, City and Tea Tree Plaza.

OK people, seeing as we have a good number of founding members, lets get to buisiness.

Rogoth had some very interesting ideas about goals to result from the "mission statement." For clarity, and for the benefit of those who may join in the future here's the list again:

"To promote Battlefleet gothic as a game system.
To introduce new players to the game, through LO and clubs/ stores/ freinds.
To produce a range of source material that will be useful for both veterans and newcomers.
To foster a "community spirit" within the LO BFG players."

As for actual goals, like Rogoth said, we should try to learn the rules of at least one extra fleet on top of our existing ones. For me it will be Tau protector fleets.
I would like everyone (who would like to) to write or co- write an article of their choice. It need only be a short one. To get ourselves goin we should also agree on some kind of deadline to work to. But this is only if everyone has time and energy, I know that LO is probably low on your lists of priorities. I will begin working on a scenery article about how I made my orbital dock and defence platforms.
Once we have enough members, we will also begin talk of an e-mail campaign or petition to get our escorts back.

One thing I would really like to see is an expansion to the BFG system. House rules and such would be lovely. I am currently working on a new race of merchantmen, probably for use with Tau. This would just be cool to see.

Everyone has shown an impressive amount of enthusiasm for this, so lets see if we can make it wrk :D!

By the way, I would like everyone to put a link to the Haven in their sig if possible, if nothing else peolpe will know we exist that way. I've made a sig image, does anyone have anwhere to host it?

Right copy that to your sig, and remove the * at the start, remove the * in the thing, and it should make the picture appear and if you click the picture, it will lead you here.

You said this was open to everyone, so why shouldn't I get word out about BFG? Probalbly the least typo- and ambiguity-ridden games sytem GW has made.

Alors;

Username: Monsieurcartier
Location: Colchester, Essex, UK.
Fleets: Imperial, technically Tyranids&Chaos.
Specialism: Writing names in very small letters on flying bases.
Article potential: I'll get back to you.....
Local GW store/ Gaming club: GW Colchester, maybe GW Ipswich.

A very warm welcom to MonsierCartier and Neferata. OK people, do we want any kind of rank system here? It could be fun, so lets throw some ideas around. If its generally felt that its unnecessary, we won't do it. Just thought I'd give you guys the option :). Articles are on the way. From me, you'll get a brand new armed merchant ship (complete with assembly guide) for use with Tau or Eldar, or as rogue traders in imperial fleets.

Ranks are for n00bs

IMO a rank system would spoil the organisation. Everyone can be tasked with doing something, but to make people more special or chief pirates would be mean. Not to mention cause mutinies. How many pirate captains have been murdered by their own crew? *slowly steps behind Will J*

BTW, sorry about the typo-tastic post I made earlier.

Yay, BFG-players!

Username: Da Mighty Camel
Location: Eskilstuna, Södermanland, Sweden.
Fleets: Orks! Waaagh!
Specialism: Orky stuff (ie. "When to push that red button").
Article potential: Scenery probably.
Local GW store/ Gaming club: Eskilstuna miniature gaming. No GW store though.

Kind of new to BFG. I have a 750pts Ork fleet and have played around 5 or six games. I tend to switch a lot between 40k, fantasy, Necromunda, Epic and so on so I have hard to focus on one game.
I enjoy playing BFG, altough it is hard with my Orks so any tips would be welcommed.

You're right monsieur, we just don't need it at the moment, or probably ever. Bt if it ever gets big enough we may need certain people to do certain tasks. But not right now :). For the moment we need ideas and articles :D!

Welcome Da mighty Camel! Hope you enjoy your stay.

Eldar are a little diggicult to get used to. I painted a 1500 pt fleet for a freind, and played a few games with them. Weapons battery heavy fleet will make fine puree out of them. They are VERY fragile, they go critical on a 4+. That said their firepower is impressive, and they are VERY fast and manouverable. A good looking fleet though.

#17 · (Edited)
Yeah, and looks are important to me. ;)
As long as I stay at long range from the weapon batteries and use hit-and-run attacks then I think I will be fine. And Eldar escorts are great, fast and can lay down a hail of precission fire.

Ok, I have made 2 fleet lists for the Eldar (800pts). Give me your opinions on them.

Aurora class light crusier.
140pts
-Pirate prince with 1 re-roll. 125pts
265pts

Hemlock squadron x 2.
3/4 Hemlocks (one squad is 3. one is 4)
120/165pts

Nightshade Destroyer squadron x 2.
3 Nightshades.
120pts

Total: 785pts

This list packs a lot of torps and pulsars, a total of 7 ships capable of firing torps and 8 pulsar-firers. It doesn't have that long range but combined with the speed of the Eldar I plan to dart in, fire away and dart back again.

2nd list.

Aurora class light crusier.
140pts

Eclipse class crusier.
250pts

Hemlock squadron x 2
3 Hemlocks.
120pts

Nightshade Destroyer squadron.
3 Nightshades.
120pts

Total: 750pts.

This one sacrifices one squad of Nightshades and the Hellbores for a carrier. Tactic is similar though.

I thought we could discuss anyting that belongs to BFG in this thread.
I don't like Aconites. Sure, they got the awsome Eldar Weapon Batteries but 65pts for aa Escort that is not an Necron seems kind of overpriced. I will go for a squad of three in the larger games probably.

I postede the first list in the SG-forums as well. got some response and the first list now looks like this:

Aurora light crusier.
140pts
- Pirate Prince. 100pts
240

Hemlock Destroyers x 2
1 squad of 3, 1 squad of 5.
120/200pts

Nightshade Destroyer squadron x 2

3 Nightshades.
120pts

Total: 800pts

Of course we can post anything BFG related here, thats what we're for :) Just thought it might get more replies there, thats all :). You sound like you know a thing or two about eldar, why not write a quick newbie's synopsis of the fleet? That would be really cool.

I will post some pics later today of the large scale (16 inch!!!) mock up i've built of the new merchant ship, and the work in progress of the BFG scale model. It will have some interesting rules combos (like the ability to swithch between solar sailing and thrusters!) But it will really be useful in objective based games, as its not that heavily armed, and is'nt really intended as a ship o' the line.

Right, this should be interesting. I'll mark this as one of my subscribed threads.

User Name: Archetype (think the album by Fear Factory)

Location: New Hampshire, USA (if you want anything more specific, you'll have to ask very nicely... :shifty: )

Fleets: Just Eldar Corsairs for now. It's actually what got me involved in GW gaming in the first place. I am perfectly willing to admit that I need and want more escorts, especially the Hellebores. Versitile little buggers. They're based in the Mordant Zone, where thinly-stetched Imperial military and ample supply convoys make for great raiding. Great... now I want to play a Convoy Run.

Specialization: Striking quickly and decisively in the first pass and crippling many ships/squadrons (still working on that, as my current record stands at no wins, no draws, and three losses). Last game I had was over two years ago. Oh, I also have an affinity for composing at least a partial background for every force that comes to mind. Guess you could call me a wanna-be storywriter.

Article Potential: Heh heh... give me a little time to think it over and decide what types of articles won't, in all likelyhood, make me sound like a gibbering idiot.

Local GW/Gaming club: There are no GW stores in New Hampshire, and the closest independent retailer is an hour's drive away. Last I checked, they had some Tyranids, Dark Eldar, and the Planet Killer as far as BFG stock went. I am a community member of the Plymouth State University Gaming Club, whose members play all sorts of games from Warhammer to D&D to M:TG and some very obscure stuff. There's a few fleets around here, including another (at least potential) Eldar player.

Welcome, Archetype!

I'm from Rochester, down by the Maine border. Plymouth, eh? Went to Durham myself, but I had a friend named Alan who went to Plymouth and was involved in working at the Econo-con a few years back. We grew up in the Lakes Region.

Liberty Tree Mall, Danvers, is your closest GW shop, but you just described their inventory as well. I imagine you head down to Manchester for your one-hour-away shop. Been over that way across Rte. 101. Some nice shops there.

Great! I have never actually seen a complete ork fleet outside the rulebook. My merchant ship is currently being painted, and there will be an assembly guide to go with it. The only GW piece it uses is a single turret! The rest is entirely scratchbuilt, but is easy to do. It is also huge, worryingly huge, almost eight inches wingtip to wingtip. Though the ship's body is only four or so inches long. Should be good.
