Default Water Warrior 2000pts 5th edition *REVISITED*

Ok, so with my prior knowledge of water warrior, and well, giving it some thought and some hard work trying to come up with new ideas, I discovered a few things here that Might be worth looking at with a water warriors list.



HQ:
Brother-Captain w/ Incinerator + Holocaust

ELITE:
Inquisitor w/ Incinerator + Holocaust
-3x warriors w/Flamer
-2x Acolyte w/Storm Bolter
-Familiar
TRANSPORT: Land Raider w/Smoke + EA

Inquisitor w/ Incinerator + Holocaust
Inquisitor w/ Incinerator + Holocaust

TROOPS:
9x IST w/2 Flamers

8x PAGK w/2 Incinerator + Melta Bomb on Justicar
8x PAGK w/2 Incinerator + Melta Bomb on Justicar

HEAVY SUPPORT:
3x Land Raider w/Smoke + EA


So that is about 2000 points. Maybe 10 points left over, Not sure.

The idea is same as the water warrior. You play defensively. Killing mostly all of the Anti-armour first. Proceeded by killing the troop choices of the opponent so they cannot gain any benefits form capturing terrain.

Being that you have 4 pie plates and 13 flamers, plus 8 twin-linked Lascannons, and 4 heavy bolters, short work of Infantry heavy armies is reasonable to think about. And 8 twin-linked lascannons? That should be an almost average of 2 vehicles going down a turn. If you get first turn and deploy properly, you can shut down all of their anti-armour turn 2 without loosing a Land Raider.

But anyways, applying the same princaples of the water warrior list, everything starts in a Land raider. With the boost to tanks and pie plates/templates, the water warrior list definatly gets a HUGE boost.

Anyways, what do you guys think? Do we finally have a list that is starting to get pretty competitive? Does the water warrior list start to look a little stronger? Maybe more mainstream?

With the new Machine spirit rule in our FAQ and the general toughening of vehicles. Yeah I like it. You could even drop the point count to a 1500 point game pretty easy by switching out the land raiders of your Inq Lord and IST squad for Chimera's then have your Land Raiders guarding their sides and/or providing 4+ cover saves as per the new vehicle obscuring rule.

Wow, yah, I didn't think of the Machine Spirit rule! Thanks for that!

However, you are very very wrong about Chimeras. This is a 'Water Warrior' List. And thus makes full use of only utilizing Land raiders and having all of your troops safely nustled inside the land raiders. Thus anything that is 7 or less strength, is useless. Playing defensivly at first and destroying anything 9+str to start with and then 8str, is going to guaruntee they cannot destroy your land raiders.

Look up 'The way of the water warrior' at bolter and chainsword. I am at work, thus do not have any links, or time to look up links. But anyways, look it up, and read tons and tons and tons of pages of amazing tactica funness!

I would worry that you wouldn't be able to do your killing quick enough if you only roll up 5 turns. Maybe switch out a land raider for a crusader given that defesive weapons are now str 4, the crusader can still fire all of its weapons. Plus getting up close and ramming with your land raider is so very fun under the new rule. 8 str ram attack is easy, and then you get to fire.

Again, I can't stress enough that you should read that tactica. I have thought about using a crusader in the list, maybe for the one inquisitor retinue. But I Honestly don't think it is a good idea..

yeah I read it, well I guess I should say skimmed it. But you also got to think about fun factor. I mean a game isn't just about winning. It's also about winning with a fracking Crusader muhahaha.

But I'm biased. With the new rules, I've had some good luck with mine. It has caused a nice ripple of terror effect.

I do like your list but I only have a LR and LRC, I just don't think I can bring myself to purchase more LRs in the current economy.

I don't know why you have incinerators then if its the water warrior?! I mean aren't you supposed to unload and clear with pyscannon fire. I mean meltabombs, chain fist etc.
And also do you have enough cc punch to clear any elites protecting a objective?

Although that last quote is disagreeable to some extent, it DOES show that the water warrior list only runs 1 psycannon. The reason it ran that one psycannon, was because in 4th ed rules, an independant character would be untargatable. Thus preventing your lone Captain from being killed while shooting.

I gotta shower and shave before I am late for work, so I don't have enough time to find what I was looking for, but if you actually read the entire thread, it reveals that the poster of this tactica in sub-sequent pages discusses psycannons and why incinerators are still better for this list.

And with 3-4 templates before you get into close combat (which every unit is capable of), Generally, most things fast enough to get to your army that is not already half dead, will die from that. Simply unload and flame away. If there is anything left, assault, and holocaust.

PS. He also discusses why Crusaders are not used.


Anyways... This is probably going to be my new list. Lol.... it is fun, and entertaining to have all those templates, and certainly both a challenge to play with, and against.

Any other ideas on how to improve it, or if it follows the idea's of the water warrior?

Get rid of the inquisitors and IST and replace them with PAGKs. Water warrior relies heavily on the maneuverability of the 24" storm bolter against horde armies and the versatility of GKs to be able to do decently well in assault. You have too many incinerators, give 1 to each squad and have more squads. I would put a psycannon on the BC, as he can still move and fire 36".
