Thread: Inquisitors Retinue

  1. #1

I was usin my Inquisitor lord (IL) and his retinue (sage,3 familiars, gun-servitor,acolyte) against tau and a few other armies aprt from chaos and i've noticed that even though the IL stats r pumped up and he's good in close combat, he tends to get shot at often and his retinue gets blown away within the first 2 turns cause when he has a retinue, he is no longer an independant character and therefor can get shot. I was just wonderin if u shouldn't give him a retinue and just pump him up with the inventory allowed? Thanks

I think the retinue is much better at shooting than at close combat. You can have the IL with a psycannon, a gun servitor with a plasma cannon, two veteran guard with plasma guns, two sages for BS and re-roll, and finally the mystics for killing deepstriking crisis suits or space marine terms.

If you're having a problem with Tau though I would suggest going for more Grey Knights. The submunition rail gun really tears apart those guys in the retinue. I can only suggest taking three Acolytes with artificer armour.

I would have to agree with the last reply. The GS w a plasma cannon and at least 2 IG w plasma cannons then you should have enough fire power to deal with the shooting threat. You have to remember that the retiune(Spelling error) is meant to pump the IL not as a fighting force. If the problem continues, try going with a GM and Terminators using the Inguisitor as an Elite choice. Just an idea.

You should also note that if you have an Inquisitor Lord he HAS to have a retinue of at least three. An elite Inquisitor does not, but his stats are lesser, but he costs a lot fewer points. I should also note that I'm biulding a CC-oriented Inquisitor Lord and retinue, complete with the Artificer-armoured Acolytes, and though I haven't tested it I expect to run up against the same problem. At least your Warriors get saves...oh, no they don't, against a submunition round. At least he's shooting them and not nailing an Assassin with the solid shot, right?

Lol. true. I know how that feels cause i got a vindicare shot down in the first down by a solid shot from the rail gun.

Frosty, what are you using your IL for? 3 Familiars is sorta overkill. And if he's a shooty IL, he should have 3 Warriors, a Sage (or two) and a Mystic. For CC IL, he should have 3 Servitors, 3 Acolytes, and maybe a familiar. I mean, if the guy is going to be your headquarters, you shouldn't skimp on him!

screen him with imperial guard inductees or storm troopers.

I create the "bristling wall" with 25 inducted guard with 4 auto cannons, 2 plasma guns with an inquistor lord with psycannon, plasma cannon servitor, 2x heavy bolter servitors, 2x sage, 1 mystic retinue behind them. Also I take 2-3 death cultists that hide within the inductees as well waiting for them to be charged.

Any list I make starts with these units then i begin to fill in afterwards with more guard or grey knights for hand to hand punch.

My current list which i placed third in my last tourney and won best army had this plus another unit of inducted guard for one fatty huge wall. callidus, leman russ, land raider, and crusader with 8 grey knights a piece and the crusader had a grand master.

Indeed, either screen your shooty IL and retinue, or at the very least put them in some sort of cover so they will always get that cover save.
