Ok recently my friend and I have been playing 2000-3000 pt games. in the last few he brought out Lord Kroak who wreaked havoc among my daemons army. to make it fair he agreed not to use him in the future unless i was ready to challenge him. and i will challenge him as soon as i find some comination of daemons brawn, cunning and tricksiness that will kill that toad. problem is i dont have any of that stuff. so has anyone got any good ideas on how to bring down lord kroak in a 3000 point match with a daemon army?
I am going to assume he has a retinue for lord Kroak. If not just use 2 Bloodthirsters with Awsome Strength & Immortal Fury. They can pound on him until he dies. If he does have a retinue then flyers are still your friend. Bloodthirster and Furies will make life difficult. Flank him to take away rank bonuses, if you can get 2 units of Furies to him then you should also outnumber(maybe even with one unit). Remember all your units have fear so if you win combat and outnumber its an auto-break.
You can also use magic to try and take him down. Kairos w/ Pit of Shades is probably the best bet. He can throw 5 dice with a re-roll, increasing your chances for Irresistable. Lord of Change can get Spell Destroyer, giving you a 50% chance of making him lose Ruination or Drain Magic. Also, you can go after his other units as he won't have that much after sinking all those points into the toad. Icon of Despair, Masque, Doom & Darkness(from Herald of Tzeentch w/ Master of Sorcery), and the Slaanesh Blades spell can get you infinite amounts of STR 5 hits on a unit. Herald of Nurgle with the default spell and a block of Plaguebearers will let you run through opposing units as well. The key here is lots of spells so he can't just sit on his dispel dice waiting for your one big spell.
There are plenty of things you can try to defeat the old toad. Nothing is for sure and nothing is going to be easy but what do you expect against a character that is over 40% of the point cost of a 3000 pt. army?
Well, if you simply wanted to *win* the battle, I'd suggest trying to run down all his other units. Kroak costs a LOT of points, and when you get down to it he's still supposed to be part of a greater whole (eg his army).
From what I read, it appears that you focus way too much on the old guy. Do you have 2 bloodthirsters? If so, run down the rest of his units! Make him PAY for only placing half the army you could have on the board. I betcha he probably runs with a 250-300 point temple guard unit with kroak, which means he probably has 2 more units of saurus warriors, maybe 1 unit of cavalry, 1-2 "monster" class creatures, and a few skink regiments for scouting.
If that's the case, destroy those 2 saurus/cavalry units and any skink regiments he is hiding. Then what does he REALLY have that you can't break with overwhelming amounts of fear-causing daemons? All you have to accept is that you are going to take some losses from that 1200 point character he's trying so hard to protect. As long as you don't lose 1200-1500 points of daemons while you're destroying the rest of his army, you're technically ahead.
No fate but what you make.
Kroak is stupidly expensive, he is the army
Pit of Shades screams out as the obvious choice for dispatching the frog mummy.

Just took a sneak peek at the new Lizard book at the GW by my house. As soon as it comes out things will change. Kroak is much different. For starters he is less than half the points he is now(not even the most expensive character in the book anymore). He only has one spell(not Ruination) that he can cast multiple times. So I would say just hold out for another month and your friend will probably not use Kroak anymore. Sounds like he is just using him now because of the over-the-top nature of the character anyway. When Kroak comes back down to earth in the new book your friend will probably lose interest.
As an aside to any mod, this is really not an army list thread. I think it would be more suitable to the general thread category.
