I am building my army and I planned on using Lord of change and I know Kairos is better than him in magic(weaker in combat) and would be a good fit for my army - however, I am reluctant to field him because he is a special char. Of the people who plays/seen him being played, do people generally frown upon him fielded on the board and has he been useful enough (than a LOC) to be fielded? He will totally dominate magic no doubt but if that brings everyone hating me at the tourny then I rather not field him...(i need players to play games with! )
You definatly get lower army ratings if you take in a special character and even more so if you field more than one. But much depends on your overall list. I play a very powerful magic Tz list and made a personal choice not ot field Kairos because I felt that would push the list over the top. Others feel differntly. Some feel Kairos's poor CC ability more than make up for his massive boost in magic. I personally disagree. In an already magic heavy army Kairos will make a dent. On the other hand Kairos is probably not the cheesiest Mage in the game, for that you need to pick up High Elves.
hmm, do you take LOC instead or KOS? what does rest of your army look like? Mine I have total of 9/6 + 1 bound regardless which L4 to pick... I really like KOS's LD spells but his mobility is not very good and might be dependent on other's LD a bit much (and my tzeentch herald's banner need to be around at all times to make certain spells better/work).
I prefer the LoC as it doesn't rely purely on magic to be useful. He can actually do some damage in HtH and combined with flight he can cause problems for the enemy. Also, I'll use Heralds for different magic, the LoC suits his lore very well.
Kairos is supremely flexible in the magic phase and can be adapted to just about any army, but if your magic is getting shut down he's useless apart from VP denial. He can't fight his way out of a wet paper bag so if he gets caught he'll be finished.
It probably comes down to what you want to accomplish with your GD: magic domination or general awesomeness. Kairos would be much better in a magic heavy tourney force while a LoC can basically plug into any army and be good.
Also, you may not make any friends going magic and Tzeentch heavy, but you'll make even less if you use Kairos

The oracle doesn't add THAT much more magic dominance anyway. Sure, he know 14 spells, but in the end, he's still just a level 4 wizard, and Master of Sorcery granting EVERY spell in any lore is nearly as good. Tzeentch's will and Twin heads is great to have on the same guy, but for what he loses in combat, I don't think it's worth it.
I'd go a normal Lord of Change anyday, with twin heads. Nearly as good and can fight 10 times better. Think he's vulnerable without a 3+ ward? The give him Master of Sorcery as well. Lores like Heavens and Life will allow him to hide with massive ranged spells, or ones that don't need line of sight anyway.
There's my 2 bob. I don't really rate a 625 point character that can't fight...
