I am thinking of including 3-4 fiends in my army(2/1 or 2/2 setup) and they are paired with 5 X 2 fleshhounds. Fleshhounds are decent flankers/protectors and now I have fiends... Are the fiends better suited to go down the field 20 first turn and charge at archer/warmachine etc? Not sure if it is a good trade off having them getting shot up to kill ~100 point units(average). Should I keep the fiends back to protect the flanks and have spells to take care of dangerous warmachines? Or Fiends are bit redundant and i should get another pack of hounds or something else? (tried seekers.... imo they dont belong in fantasy...40k is a MUCH better environment for them )
With your setup, there's two things that I think you could do with them. First, yes, they do make great warmachine/skirmisher hunters. They also are great flankers, which is what I think their best use is. The other thing I think you could do, which might be a bit more risky, but could also pay off quite well, is if you have your fiends in 2/2, you could pair a fiend unit with a fleshound unit, keeping the fiends a bit ahead of a flank of the hounds so that you could charge a unit straight on with the hounds and flank them with the fiends. That way, maximum static combat res for a unit without a BSB or magic banner would be 2, which you would easily earn back with your flank and wounds. Just a thought though.
No, I don't have any wool.
So lets review what a uhnit of 2 Fiends gives you:
- A small ranked unit with M10, with a small frontage
- Unit Strength 6
-And all the other advantages of Daemons
You have a look at that, and it's pretty perfect for flanking and also targeting missile troops in one rank.
What Blacksheep has mentioned is a good idea. One unit threatens the front, the other the flank. Then combo charge them to death. BT is also good to do this with, having flying and all.
I myself will be using 3 Fiends in one unit, for a bit of extra durability, and also as Flamers take the other rare choice. Small units with no static res are gonna be piece meal for this unit, but combo charges with BT or Fleshhounds are where it's at as well.
Just my 2 cents
