Yesterday I bought the new Daemons of Chaos army book mostly just for fun - I wasn't considering them in the slightest as I don't like playing the bad guys, but hey, the army book got me SO started that I simply had to jump on the bandwagon (aparently, the author of the army book must be a great fan of Neil Gaiman, or his Sandman at the very least, which I am very fond of).
I've been going through LO and the army book, trying to decide on an army suitable for my needs, and decided to go for a Khorne/Tzeentch mix, with spare room to comfortably expand into the slaanesh realm later. However, I am very disappointed GW doesn't bother producing some of the necessary units described in the army book! No slaanesh steeds, no chariots. While I can convert a Khorne/Tzeentch chariot or Nurgle's palanquin, I am nowhere near as skilled as the folks in GW to sculpt my own Slaanesh steed.
I know steeds were available back in the 6th ed. HoC armies, but I simply cannot find these anywhere.
So the question is, how do you cope with missing miniatures?
You can find Slaanesh steed by looking on ebay. If you search for 'mounted daemonettes' you'll find the most recent ones (where the riders are moulded to the body) and the older 5th ed models where the riders were separate (but are a bit uglier).
Those that have converted such a chariot have sometimes used the Dark Elf chariot body.
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
The older HoC steeds should still be available via components orders, and the alternative is to proxy models for them. As for the chariots, using the new Plastic HE chariot would be a good way to go. I have no doubt these things will be released eventually, but not for a good few months, as GW seems to have switched to drip-feeding models across all ranges rather than one big bang, like they did for vampire Counts and High Elves..
I quite liked the Daemon Chariot of Slaanesh pictured in the Storm of Chaos book. It was based off the DE chariot but HE would look good too.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
I didn't even notice Seekers weren't there anymore on mail order. That's strange, since they actually had a model for them. Perhaprs there's a good chance they'll be coming out again soon. I'm not entirely sure what you could use now though. The only thing I can think of, is a conversion using the Lizardmen Sauruss Cav's Cold Ones as steeds. Paint em blue, and put a Daemonette on top...
As for chariots, the Chaos Warrior chariot is a good one for Khorne I think, but chariots will have to be converted. It can be simple if you like, just change the crew and steeds over.
So how do I cope? I think I've completely fluked it, and every model I've needed has been available.
