I have a 2250 army with Kairos/LOC, Herald nurgle, Scribes, Herald tzeentch - 9/6 + bound. Is it better to push magic further with the hellfire banner or go for banner of sundering (assuming using hellfire wont break any existing units). Of course the tzeentch herald will be flying with the banner and no doubt he will be targeted by enemy while the sundering banner will be housed in the plaguebearer unit with the nurgle herald. Suggestions on which choice is better?
If you have magic heavy, you don't really need the banner of sundering, you'll have plenty of dispel dice. Hellfire is good and so is despair.
i am hoping 9/6 is magic heavy although i have seen 14/9 for 2250 as well. hopefully 6 is good enough..
9/6 is not magic heavy at all. I run 14/9 in 2k and that is considered average for a magic heavy army.
In your case I think the hellfire vs sundering is a tossup. 6dd is not alot. In a heavy magic army though the hellfire is the way to go, it basicly drains 2 dd from the enemy every turn as they will always keep 2dd in reserve for it. and when it does get off it can earn most of it's points back in one go if you have flown it into the middle of the enemies rear.
14/9 is too much... it takes away other parts of the army too much. I have a L4,L2,L1,scribes and the nurgle herald has to be there for the nurgle tarpit. I do have 2 X 10 bloodletter units protecting plagueunit though... i could take them out for horrors but that will drastically reduce my capabilities... I think i will try to view what armies are there before the tourny and change on the fly....(not cheating right?)
With 6 DD I really don't think you need Sundering. 6DD will take care of the opponents important spells, a few here and there will get through, but hopefully nothing too bad. Many armies barely have a magic phase, and 6 is more than enough. I think against the vast majority of lists (those which are not super magic heavy) 6 DD is plenty, and even a super magic heavy list will have their prime spells shut down.
I would say that Sundering is more of a defensive strategy, while Hellfire is more offensive.
No, I don't have any wool.
DESPAIR - With Fury's if you can cause enough panic tests you can get some crossfiring action going. Easiest way to take out whole units.
The only army's despair is bad against is the undead ones.
