I guess it is kinda odd to ask here but this saturday's tourny will include a few daemon players and with the attendance (magic prerelease same day..) I am very sure I will be playing at least one of them with my army. I know two of them field BT and I think one is mostly khorne with chariots and Skulltaker while other was more balanced. Since my army is little more magic oriented with Kairos/LOC I am curious what I can do to take on him? he can probably rip my nurgle herald's unit to shreds and it seems to me i have to simple dump all my magic on him which is not that good considering he has MR 2... any suggestions?
Well the best way to deal with a thrister is to tar pit it with skeletions and simply raise more each turn than it can kill, or shoot it with a cannon. As you have neither of these options your best magical bet is to kill off all dispel dice generators and the banner of sundering then hit the BT with a few big bolts of change. If you run Karios and put 4-5 dice into it you should be able to overcome his MR and his basic DD pool. An average BOC hit will take a Thrister down to about 2 wounds, do it twice and watch it die.
Unfortunately Khorne is the rock to your sissors.
You will need MoS on your heralds and maybe LoC because if its pure Khorne you can bet your life that they will have Banner of Sundering. Sundering + MR is a bad day for a magic army.
Big Blocks are your best bet to crush him with combat res. Still this is hard to do against a flying BT.
Flamers are your best bet, +1 to hit and pure number of shots will make a BT sweat a little and after a few wounds bad players will try to protect him and not get him into combat. Every Turn a BT is not in combat is a win to you. Unfortunately good players know the safest place for the BT is in combat....
Screamers slashing could be an option as well but hard to pull off
I'd be redundant, but a BT doesn't seem a threat to me.
Just use units with high static res values, plus some light magic maybe.
And since you're also demon, you won't break: this means that you just need to be deployed tight, so that you can countercharge the BT and change the odds.
Once you have weight, 2 ranks, flank, standard, even the BT will have a hard time winning the combat (and you even have a ward save...don't worry)
It's better, it's shiny, it's warped...it's Chaos.
Funny thing about MR resistance and STS.....one requires that the spell be cast on the intended victim, the other requires it to be picked for the right lore before the game get's played.
Take a LOC with MOS, and then choose lore of fire. Charge the BT before it charges you with your LOC.
Now, you proceed to dump all your magic besides your LOC. Your goal is to make him use his two standard dispel dice and spellbreakers. Then, for your very last spell, cast Flaming Sword of Rhuin (yes, you can cast it on yourself in combat, because it's on the wizard itself).
That's right, suddenly his point sink is getting hit on a score of 2+, is getting wounded on a 2+, and has to take 6 of those. Unless he invested in his BT, that gives you a definite edge in mathhammer terms. Considering one of you opponents is going to, by force of habit, skip the magic phase, odds are good that they'll forget to dispell it in thier magic phase too.
Also, another +, this plan will give shameful bragging rights if it works.
