I was thinking of using a bloodthirster in my 2k list.
Here comes my question: Is it actually fun to see that enormous beast ripping every enemy formation to shreds and doing a lot of the work by himself?
And how fragile do you guys think a tooled up BT is?(how many cannonballs can he suffer or what kind of units are going to kill him).
Thanks in advance
Is your first question retorical of course it is fun to have death on wings it is like a dragon exept nastyer.
A fully tooled up bloodthirster is not fragile as he is in combat by turn 2 and he can be well protecter. T6 is nothing to snear at, just watch cannons.
What kind of unit is going to kill him ok cannons, dragons, pairs of hydras, carnisaurs and he will practically be dead if he runs into a unit of 40 zombies that keep coming back but no one would ever charge thier bloodthirster into zombies.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
what type of question is that?!
of course he fun to play with he's death incarnate to most things and i like seeing snooty elves getting ripe to shreds in a challenge
Blood for the Blood god!!
Then again sometimes he dosent do all the work by himself i charged a unit of slayers (wasnt the smartest thing i know but last turn only unit thought might as well) in the rear with bloodletters in the front (old bloodletter rules frenzy no Killing blow etc) and he missed 5 of his attacks then rolled 2 ones to wound so only killed one, so with anything in warhammer some things come down to luck even if you have a kick ass deamon on wings

As you can see, it's going to be hard to find some that doesn't find BT 'fun'. Unless you prefer someone who can cast magic, BT has everything you could possibly want out of a monster flyer, with his massive choice of upgrades.
Now as for how fragile he is, against combat and magic, not very. I bring mine with MR3, so there's only a worry if my enemy throws 5 dice into a spell, like the Tzeentch DP's that love to throw out Gateway on 5 dice. His ability to fly is what should be keeping him alive here.
Now against shooting, I'm going to say VERY vulnerable. There's two reason for this. 1: There's no rider to randomise hits against, so everything gets pumped into him and 2) He only has 5 wounds. it's not really that many wounds, as bolt throwers and small arms fire become a real threat (repeater crossbows can do quite a number here...). Again, the ability to fly is what should help keep you alive, but also running him along side Furies to kill those missile troops is going to help a lot.
Some things to remember with BT for maximum effectiveness: 1) Keep him alive all game. He gives away far too many VP's and awesome killing power, so don't let him die. Use terrain and flight, and you should do ok. 2) Be patient! The very first game I used BT, I charged the front of 9 Knights of the Realm, thinking my KB attacks would do the trick. Not the be. He was charged in the flank by Grail Knights after he failed to break them. I would have been far better off waiting just one more turn, hitting the flank, and then his entire battle line would have rolled. Patience and timing are key to getting the best out of this guy.

The thing with a BT is, you should pick your fight.
Your' not going to do too great charging him into a fully ranked up unit, you should defineitly be able to pick your fights with his fly move.
As i recently made the mistake against a nurgle warriors list, BT and Hounds into the front of a big unit, BT has to accept the challenge, i roll woefully with dogs, and lose combat by lots, BT's instability test drops me to 1 wound.... Needless to say alot of Buboes came my way and that was one dead BT.
More or less pititful dice rolls on my behalf but I did learn that I should pick my fights alot more and always consider Combat Res =]
I am pretty new to daemons, but I take a BT, and I am 4-0 so far with them, all massacres. I find that the most effective way to utilize his charges is either go for cavalry, or use another unit...say dogs or bloodletters to keep a large unit in combat while you use that turn to charge a flank of said unit.
so far I have had a blast playing daemons, I have dropped 2 chaos lords and a vampire lord on dragon with my BT so far, and not to mention tons of units. I think in all these games ive taken maybe 4 wounds total on him lol. I use Immortal Fury, Axe of Khorne, Firestorm Blade and Armour of Khorne. I was thinking obsidian armour, but really I will be attacking flanks most often, and with immortal fury and axe of khorne, the odds of me getting a killing blow off will be pretty good.
F that haha, id have to change my build to awesome strength or just drop the firestorm blade to do it hehe, because i doubt you can't show me one prince star dragon build where the prince doesnt have armour of caledor or dragon armour hehe. Though a BT could chew through a Star Dragon easily enough, and just hope that the prince fails his tests and runs away.
luckily out of my group of players i am the only one who plays high elves though lol.

Dragon armour protects the mount too
And tailoring your lists?! If you can do that, I guess you're fine....
Why is he so vulnerable against high elves and Dragon armour?
I fought a giant one on one and brought it to one wound, it then headbutted me which meant i lost my next round of attacks and he charged me with a chariot in the flank. Cause I had no attacks combat res was bad but I rolled lucky and took him out next turn. I think this is another way he might be a little bit vulnerable
