Ignoring the fact that the other GD are better, what is the best build for a Daemon Prince?
I've been thinking of using one for fun (and to use that awesome Bel'akor model), and like your input on this
I was thinking MoT, Lvl1 Caster, Winged Horror, Power Vortex, Mastery of Sorcery (for Lore of Fire) and cast Flaming Sword of Rhuin on himself to get a power boost and charge him into the flanks of combat
I like the thought and kudos for thinking about using a "crappy" choice. Sounds like a good plan but you can't get MoS and Power Vortex as you will be over on your points limit for LoC gifts. I will watch this thread(and contribute if I think of anything good) as I think it is always good to consider all the choices in the book and what you can do with them.
Good point, thats fine i guess, it was their to fill points anyways
I'll just replace PV and LV1 Wizard for LV2 Wizard, that way he gets the same amount of PD still, and has the possibility to cast other spells for Lore of Fire
Or i can just drop the Vortex and leave him be, making him cheaper
I was just looking at that as well. Giving him Lev. 2 gets him the same thing at only a slightly higher point cost.
Another thing to look at with the DP is not just what we can do with him but also what we can do with the extra points. Even a totally tooled up DP comes in under 500 pts. A GD is going to run somewhere from 550-650+. So, can the loss of power with the DP be made up with the addition of other models/units to the army?
Third point I just saw, DP is not a large target. That will make him harder to hit with missles and easier for us to hide before he gets into combat.

Deamon Princes have never been large targets but ive been playing with them since early hoardes so im used to that
but i like my deamon prince he can fit a few different roles and is cheaper then a GD for most freindly games ill use him as the only GD ive got is a Bloodthrister so isnt completely overkill
but the setup i usually go for is Lvl 2 or 3(been awhile since ive used deamons cant remember they're max lvl) with winged horror, Unnatural Swiftness, Master of Sorcery (Lore of Fire)and MoT, Flaming sword with always strike first is pretty nasty

The Daemon Prince I've had success with is a Nurgle one. Level 2 caster, MoN, Winged, Immortal Fury, Stream of Corruption. If you can cast the level 1 Nurgle spell, you will kill what ever you charge. Then if all else fails, you have a flying breath attack.
I also think a combo like the Ether Blade and Immortal Fury would rock, too. Make him a wizard if you like, but this guy is pretty darn cheap, an tears Cavalry a new a-hole. He can't fly, but has good movement anyway.
Some thoughts for you
