Why do all the lists i see equip the herald with Winged horror instead of the disc of Tz?
giving the disc may be a little more expensive (dont have army book with me) but does not come out of the 50 points allowed to him.
The Herald of tzeench is only a magic player in an army all he realy needs is master of sorcery or spell breaker, wings are only 15pts plus it alows him to make his area affect spells nasty
how should you use him? In the first 2 turns use flickering fire with his unit when you get below 6 horrors there is no use for him to be there so it alows him to to fly into the middle of the enemy army and realy hurt them with his area afect spells.
try giving him the banner of hellfire and see what happens (its nasty)
I asked a similar question not long ago. Here are the details: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...isc-wings.html (Heralds of Tzeentch: Chariot, Disc or Wings?)
Basically a disc/wings cost the same pretty much. The difference is two-fold:
1) A Disc is a seperate upgrade and does not use up any of your 50pt gift limit. Winged horror does and therefore limits what you can take. Since most people do not use their full quota of gifts anyway it is not too much of a problem
2) A Herald with winged horror counts as a flyer, therefore -1 to hit and can see 360 degrees around him. He can also join a unit of horrors to provide it with his locus. A Disc counts as cavalry (if flying cavalry) with a more limited arc of fire and without the -1 to hit. It can not join units.
The winged horror is more flexible but there is not much in it. If your running large units of horrors winged one is better but if this is multiple horror spam (lots of units of 10 horrors) the benefit of locus is less relevant. To be frank I prefer discs given the look nicer and provide nice conversion opportunities
Key things for an Ork to remember in the heat of battle:
Always remember to pillage BEFORE you burn
When the pin is pulled, Mr. Stickbomb is not our friend
When in doubt empty the magazine.
And most importantly AIM towards the Enemy.
Roehug has put it right, except forSince the Herald is a US1 model on foot he gets those extras even without being winged.A Herald with winged horror counts as a flyer, therefore -1 to hit and can see 360 degrees around him
It ain't easy bein' green... :-)
Or one of the most obvious reasons would be a Tz herald on a disc CANNOT join a unit of horrors.....
I think that if its between disc and winged horror I'd want to use the Locus ability as long as I could. With that said I have him mounted on a chariot. Allows me to be scary to individual models and skirmishers if magic doesn't seem to be doing the job.
Oh yeah, banner of hellfire on a flyer behind enemy lines. Burn them! Burn them All!
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross the road without anyone questioning its intentions.
