Hello Daemon players,
This thread is dedicated to one of the most feared single models around today - Bloodthirster!
Tell us your stories of carnage, tactics that work or don't, anything Bloodthirster related!
So people think Bloodthirster is cheesy huh? let's rub it in
Blood for the blood god!
As a user of Dark Insanity, things tend to get a bit extreme.
The other week he was charged by a Shaggoth...who managed to do nothing. The Bloodthirster turns around and promptly kills him in one go.
Flank charging a unit of Dwarfs...and rolling the magical 14 attacks. 11 dead dwarfs later and he was on top.
In terms of tactics I usually send him around the flank, often supported by a unit of Flesh hounds. That usually creates an opening for them to roll down the flank, or at the very least alter my opponent's plan as they attempt to deal with two power units hitting in the same place (and stop the flank attack).
(Though my heroes of recent days have been a unit of horrors wiping out a unit of Chaos Knights with a single Flickering Fire \o\ )
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
I gotta say, Dwarfs don't tend to like units like Furies and Flesh Hounds, let alone BT...but to get the 14 attacks is just awesome.
I managed to find myself against a Beasts of Chaos army once at a local tourny, rolled 13 attacks TWICE that game Smashed through his Doombull and Minos + Dragon Ogres.
Though, as I fellow BoC player, can't wait for their 7th ed book!
C'mon guys! I knew Rork would pitch in Anyone else ?
First game against my friends HE. Flew the ol' BT up the side and rolled through the flanks of 4 units single handedly. HE (pun intended) was not impressed.
Well my Bloodthirster has yet to lose a Challenge (Axe(sometimes firestorm)/Obsidian/Fury), and has decimated lots and lots by himself. Only thing that's given him grief was a Keeper of Secrets. Kept temptatoring me. 3 turns later I passed the LD and took it down to a wound, where it died to instability.
Admittedly my Daemons only come out for tourneys. Any other time I feel mean.
HElf Dragon Lord charged it once. Confident I had the firestorm blade (I'd been bluffing in pretending to stay away from it). I got charged, took 2 wounds, then promptly got 3 KBs on the rider, and 2 wounds on the dragon. Won combat, dragon broke, overran, into an ensuing combat between hounds and swordmasters, destroyed them, overran again into a RBT, the crew of which fled the table. Good times.
He's quite feared around these parts. He's even bagged Skulltaker twice (7 S8 attacks'll do that to the poor guy). He's ran down a pair of hydra's in one go before too. That's probably one of my more cunning ones. I charged one hydra in the flank with a BT, and the other in the front with furies. The BT killed the hydra, the crew fled, I overran into the other one, and killed that because of my furies.
Against vamps. Mega deathstar GG unit with the Banner of Drakenhof. Turn one I put the BT in position so if Konrad rolled frenzy he would charge out his unit (not the deathstar) and so that he would be in charge range of the deathstar next turn. Vamp turn konrad charged the BT and got cleaved in two. My turn 2. I charge the vamp, destroy the champ. Lose by 2. Roll 12 for LD O.o. Get to reroll thanks to my BSB thankfully. Lost a wound. Next turn I focus all dispulsion attempts on that unit so he can't get the champ back (teehee). BSB challenges me. I accept and butcher it too. Still losing by 2, I pass LD this time fine. Finally I get to attack this damn vampire. It was a caster lord with the skull staff, a 3+ armour (I think) and a 4+ ward. It got absolutely slaughtered. From then on it was just catchup the additional units. Bloodthirsters do horrible things to Vampires.
However, a weakness I didn't know I had lies in Skaven clan Skryre. Ratling Guns rip through our infantry and hounds, while those cannons can take a heavy toll on the thirster. And their magic is nasty too. Just a word of warning to all you Khornites out there.
Played one today with Awesome Strength and Immortal Fury. It charged some cold one riders, including a hero and a Lord with the Blade of Realities on a Carnosaur. Killed the Lord, then spent a couple turns hacking down the carnosaur, the hero, and the riders, the last two of which finally broke (they'd been in range of the Slaan and the Battle Standard, so they didn't break until forced to by the BT's Terror). Then the BT went on to wreck the temple guard in the last two turns of the game. The seven swings with re-rolls to hit, wounding everything on twos, and ignoring all armor is pretty hot. Not much stands up to that.
In other news, the game went well. In three thousand points, I wiped the lizardmen army off the table and only one of my units was reduced below half strength--a single block of bloodletters. Daemons are pretty excellent.
Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor!
Yesterday I played 2k with a defence line of 30 horrors, in the middle 4 beasts of nurgle , a fleshhound unit on each flank and 2 heralds of tzeentch+ BT.
the bloodthirster flew to the middle of the table behind a tower and next turn it charged along with my fleshhounds 20 men at arms with damsel and they didn't pass their terror test and in 1 turn I overran his skirmishers+ 20 men at arms and got behind his battle line.
I could attack a paladin on pegasus and later in the game he killed a trebuchet and 2 units kotr with flank and rear charges.
Last time I used my Bloodthirster it was against WOC and I positioned him so that a unit of Chaos Knights had to charge (frenzy)
As my opponent was mustering his 16 dice for the warriors and 10 horse dice, I reminded him that he has to issue and accept challenges meaning only his champion could attack.
I promptly hacked him to pieces, the Knights lost their Frenzy and failed their leadership test. They were promptly ran down, leading the Bloodthirster into a unit of Marauders who subsequently got a solid beating and fled as well.
Would have been better if the units nearby also ran, but that would be asking too much
I fired a master Engineer manned Cannon at one and killed it in one shot.
YOU DAEMON BOYS DON'T HAVE IT ALL YOUR OWN WAY!
