So as the title says I am a 40k player that is thinkign of switching over to use my daemons for fantasy. I havent really sat down much with the new fantasy core book or the daemons codex so I havent been able to come up with any lists and such. Just as a help to me however, I would like to ping the fantasy community with my list of daemons I have on hand and ask what I may need to add to get a decent fantasy army. So if you wouldnt mind giving me some pointers I would greatly appreciated it.
I have roughly:
20 Bletter, deamonettes, PBs, horrors each
1 GD of each god,
3 Deamon Princes
This gives me a pretty solid batch of models to draw from for 40k, but I really dont know whats useful in fantasy and what I really should have to make it work better. Through some reading I think one thing I think i need is more of one kind of core troop as a kind of anchor. What else would be really helpful?
It gives you a good bit to choose from, though sadly some of it is rather lack luster.
Princes are garbage, chariots are a waste, PBs got nerfed, and Daemonettes could be better (though others tend to disagree).
Horrors work best in a single block of 40 with a herald and Mastery of Sorcery, which gives him access to one entire school of magic.
Flamers work best in packs of 5, but 3 works for smaller games.
Bloodletters are really good, consider more, but 20 makes a good solid unit.
Juggers are amazing. Use them.
Fleshhounds arefast and good for flanks/warmachine hunting.
Screamers depend on who you ask
Seekers/Fiends fill the same role as hounds. I can't really comment to much.
Greater Daemons have thier place and are usually pretty scary. I'm partial to Lords of Change.
40k: Silver Angels of Our Martyred Lady 7/2/3 - Daemons of the Great Squiggle! 3/1/0
Fantasy: Windhost of Athel'Loren 2/0/0 - Daemons of Another Great Squiggle! 0/0/0
Warmahordes: Legion of Everblight (Absylonia)
So what I am seeing is generally 10-20 more horrors is where I should start. Then maybe more Bletters. That is one heck of a lot of basic troops to have I feel. But then again I dont know fantasy well. In 40k, the amount I have is considered just this side of crazy as is.
But anyways, I shall start budgeting aside for a couple more boxes of horrors and some Bletters. Now since soul grinders arent part of the fantasy mix, could they at least be used to sub in as anything by chance?
not realy, only 40k has such a large monster for fantasy
Grinders don't work in fantasy, and chariots aren't so good. Also, there's no way you'll use 3 daemon princes. 1 is enough, and honestly, they're pretty lackluster. You're better off using one of them as a greater daemon. With a little conversion, they should be fine for that.
Chaos Daemons are a very good army in fantasy, but they're primarily an infantry army, the opposite of what they are in 40k. 20 of each is a good start. Plaguebearers are a little lackluster, but I like daemonettes. They're great for flanking large blocks of infantry.
Everything else in the list looks good, especially all the bloodcrushers. They're incredibly powerful in fantasy.

Thank you for the pointers all. I think these tips will get me some good directions as far as fantasy goes. I would never really have thought that infantry was so important to be honest.
But this really does help me get some angles on where i should be looking to expand the army when I need to. You guys have been a big help.
Read the army book and see how the fantasy army works. I find that mine is work in progress I'm thinking that the core units are going to be about 20 big. I think GD's in a 2k game are not worth taking. I'm toying with hero's and placing them into the units to give them the upgrades.
