Agreed with the above if we don't get an new codex by 6th ed we will be gone for good or may aswell be as the rules will more than likely make more units less effective with the way GW are changing them and the complaints they did get when 5th ed came out would suggest that in around 2 years time a new ed will be out. Though who knows we could be the poster boys for the next rules edition...NOT.

As for not getting an update it brings me a very big smile to see our codex can trump every army in the game and when played right can have them dead by turn 3. I mean our codex was probably almost the best built codex around for it's time in 3rd ed and has proven this now into 5th ed, it's just now we have lost some wargear (most which I never really took), and screwed around scourge and mandrakes big time, and made me think twice about wyches (we are CC experts why do we not have more attacks in CC and standrad grenades in our profiles). Though if and when we do get done I feel the succubus will become like exarchs allowing us to use a special rules for a whole squad (please be choosing which drug we want to take).

I must disagree though. Our codex cannot trump any army. It was never very good to begin with, but it's always held a lot of promise. And that is probably the most agonizing part about this whole mess... no pun intended.

Perhaps they are just sneaking the Tyranids into their release schedule and not delaying everything else? It's not like they need new models or anything. Not likely I know, but the the idea keeps me from having a conniption, so I'm going to stick with it for now.

Yeah, they'll probably just make the Carnifex Initiative 3 and call it a day...

Yep yep,this didn't shock me at all.

It totally makes sense to re-do a army that already had great models,okish fluff,and played good on Table top.

And leave DE that have crappy outdated models,hardly enough fluff,and each edition gets a slight nerfing...


Oh and if you can't see this already,when Nids are done you know for a fact GW will re-do either BA,DA or some other chapter we don't give a f*** about,aslong as it make them money.

The reason squats got dropped is because there was no way they could make a unit with a move of 3 in 2nd edition translate to 3rd, where everyone moves 6". Add to that the fact they were a space version of a Big Gun army, in a game where EVERYONE has big guns and there wasn't a place for them. Add to THAT the fact there was never any decent squat models, they didn't get much shelf space even when they were an active race and they were pretty much doomed by the time a 3rd ed was being considered.

The fact that they've let designers spend company time on making DE models lately (even if they've not been released) tells me that the situation isn't as hopeless for you naughty space elves as you might think. And you're still not the oldest codex currently being used, the DH/WH books are both almost a decade old now.

Your time will come.

I agree, It's been already too many editions without any real updates.
Last few editions they just gave us an FAQ, while other races got an FAQ + a new codex each time. It's like they're trying to get a few last cents out of DE by doing a minimal effort.

If GW gives up on DE I'll give up my 20k DE too, I don't wanna own an unwanted child...

Yes it has been said since years now that they're working on new DE models, rules and fluff are done according to GW staff and dex writer (confirmed many times on gamesdays)
Now I'm wondering why they're waiting so long for a release?
What if they're just lieing? Maybe they never did work that hard on those models? Maybe they weren't good enough, maybe they're jsut waiting for a good moment without giving us any spoilers...

Right now I'm wondering...what if some of those release shedules aren't completely correct? Would anyone be mad if new DE are released instead of tyranids? Don't think so...

In any case I'll give GW one more year, if no model or codex artwork, any official release date is given ,then I'll just stop expecting anything and I'll accept that there never will be a new DE dex. (and I'll probably sell my army)

When you think about it we did get several new fluff, artwork and rules for DE (in rulebook, apocalypse, planetstrike), but none of those truly confirm that there will be a new dex. Only info we got about the codex is GW staff on gamesdays telling us some spoilers about the new dex. Surprisingly, no release date, no pictures and no models...all talk...

Right now I'm getting more and more mad that I almost just feel like throwing all my DE in a big box and burn it all!

Also, unlike chaos dwarfs we aren't an assuredly safe army. Chaos Dwarfs are too big of a player in the fluff to go poof, for Dark Eldar it is just a matter of "Instead of pointy elves raiding the empire, pointy chaos marines do it!"

But as of this point they're still including us in fluff and seemingly expanding a little bit. We got some decent love in Planetstrike and they even went on to specifically describe the DE as worshipers of Khaine-- a tid bit that was never made expressly clear anywhere else. There's even mention of us in the Space Puppies book, as the Blood Claw leader had his second heart ripped out by a Dark Eldar.
