Actually it was bike marines. Lots and lots of bikes. And a couple dreads. I'm pretty good at keeping them alive, so they are pretty reviled at my club.

You mean lots of bikes where their enhanced toughness doesn't matter against poison shots....lol.
I love how some players claim the army they just lost to is "broken" instead of trying to figure out a way to beat it. That's why I usually just game with the same small group instead of going to a store to play.

I did DE when they first came out (going back a few years now peeps) then saw the new kabalite warriors and loved them. then the scrourges hit and it became a nesseity to collect so my eldar went on half hold and i bought some stuff.

Th only thing i have is i cant stand the haemonoucli stuff, the wracks, talos, grotesques etc i think are vile - which suits me fine as i always ran whych and kabalite forces anyway

i started about a year and a half ago because of dark eldars awesome mobility and because of the old raider and ravager kits wich i still think look better than the new ones although most of our range has been greatly improved. since the new codex came out i have started loving the razorwing (i even converted one) and wracks even though the new models are so expensive.

The new Dark Eldar are the reason why I got into WH40K - when GW previewed the new models I was so impressed so I decided to finally give the game a try.

My 40k adventure started with the Space Marine VS Dark Eldar starter. From then on it became Space Marines and Chaos, which Chaos eventually won. The more I played, the more I liked the game, and started to participate in tournaments. I noticed a lack of 'xenos' armies during these events: it was mostly Space Marines and Imperial Guard. My regular opponent played Tyranids, and when these three are your only enemies, you quickly learn how to beat them, and I rarely tried other armylists with my Iron Warriors.

I then found out that in all that time, the Dark Eldar had never received a new codex: it was still the second edition 'dex that stood lonely on the shelves of my local retailer. Started to read up on these dark creatures, searched on the net for articles, looked at the models, and then realized: I'm seriously considering starting this army!

The 'dex talked about it being an army for the true tactician, that mistakes you made were unforgivable, and, also not unimportant, very, very, evil. It was a step in the other direction (except for the evil part): with Marines, you can more easily make mistakes and live to learn, to the point of your only strategy being "move towards the enemy and shoot".

So, the Dark Eldar became a challenge, one I was very willing to pick up. My efforts were helped with a solid fact: none of my enemies knew how to fight them, as there were no Dark Eldar players before me. Before the new codex came out, I hadn't lost a single game. The hit-and-run tactics suited me: I learned how to exploit situations, learned of actions you needed to take and which ones you'd better leave out.
The economical way in which I had built my army (with all its converting) was also a challenge and added to the fun. The now finished WIP for it can be found here:
http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ed-tongue.html (WIP: Kabal of the Venomed Tongue)

My opponents learned with me, and I slowly started to see anti-Dark Eldar tactics form. Forcing my opponents to change their habits made me smile!

Quickly after, the codex got the apparently highly anticipated update. I thought the Dark Eldar were doing fine in holding up against armies with up-to-date codeci.
But they could do better. The new 'dex renewed my enthusiasm for these evil bastards.
New models, new rules, a new period of learning, adapting and just having fun: Dark Eldar have proven that they have every right to exist in the 40k game.

My reasons to why I love the DE.

I'll miss the days of the old archon tooled up with a punisher, tormentor helm, jetbike shadowfield and an unhealthy amount of combat drugs a trophy rack and plasma grenades.

The look on your opponents face when he sees 6 S6 WS6 I7 re-rolling all misses coming from your skinny little lord with T4 and a 2+ invul save are gone...

By the way that loadout was 172pts, so while it wasnt cheap he could easily cut through units and characters himself.

I started over 7 years ago with the DE v SM starter set, my twin got (and still uses) those marines and I got the dark eldar, however I soon sold them and started Imperial Guard, a 9-10 year old would rather be the good guys with the tanks after all.

I re-started them just over a year ago and when the new codex and models came out I sold all of the old models I had to make way for the new stuff, the new model range was just too good.

    Nice!

I miss the days when I used to be able to take a HQ choice of three Haemonculi, on jetbikes (Giving them T5) with liquifiers.

...and a Urien who could hide in an enormous unit of 20+ Grotesques (No maximum unit size.) immune to small arms fire (Could only be killed at range by instant death.) before atttacking with a liquifier that automatically hit (As it uses a template) and automatically wounded! (If a weapon he used hit, it would automatically wound!) :-)
