I am wondering if anyone uses a punisher on their drachons/archons. I normally use agonisers and i was just curious

If I know I am going against marine opponents (not chaos) I usually take the punisher, tormentor helm, animus vitae combination.

I almost always use agonisers. They just rock if you come into CC with that big fat WL. Or other high T creature. Your incubis have punishers so why bother taking one when you can get a a archon with a ago so he knocks off the reall big things?

Unless you plan on using a drug roll to get +1 STR take the agonizer. Who wants their lord with an insane # of attacks needing a 5 to wound?

Also remember the agonizer autowounds on 4's regardless of how big and bad your opponent is. I love the look on my opponents face when I run up to his toughness bazillion (ok a little stretch there but you get the point) character and waste it in one round of cc.

Then there is also the glances vehicles on a 6. Granted not something I would bet the game on but it has come in useful on occasion when I screw up and let a dread get close enough to get into cc.

Agonisers, one the best close combat weapons for low strength troops in 40k.period.

Yup gibb is right agis rock theres no other way around it. I have won like 30 batlles due to agonisers. (on my lord and troops)That is around 45% of my total batlles. So agonisers are important for me and they will always will be. (o yeah a powerfist for 15 pts or a ago for 20 hmm difficult choice )

I have to say this is an interesting topic, personally I take any of the following combinations:

Anti Monster Lord

Archon
Drugs
Shadow Field
Agoniser
Pistol

Mount on someone elses raider, by joining the squad (probably a raider squad) then leap out, leave the squad and assault a LONG way all alone, aiming at such lovelys as Chaos Lords, Demons, Wraithlords and anything else that I can rip apart then laugh at.

Anti Troop Lord

Archon
Drugs
Punisher
Animus Vitae
Shadow Field
Tormentor Helm

4 Incubi
2 Warriors, Splinter cannons
Raider

Mount in their personal raider and charge into the soft belly of the enemy leaving my other units to tie up the nasties and/or dark lance them to oblivion.

Combo 1

Archon
Drugs
Shadow Field
Agoniser
Pistol

Dracon
Drugs
Punisher
Animus Vitae
Tormentor Helm

5 Incubi
3 Warriors, 2 Splinter cannons
Raider

The reason for the extra warrior is another 5+ save.... using the mixed armour rules if I HAVE to take saves on 5+ then I will remove these instead of wounding the dracon (from shooting of course, not CC) In CC the dracon will be positioned so that only 2 or 3 of the enemy are in range of her punisher, so there will be none left if they get their initiative at all, keeping her safe from having to make those saves.

The archon eats the monsters.

Combo 2 (And my current favourite for high points games)

Archon
Drugs
Punisher
Animus Vitae
Tormentor Helm

5 Incubi
3 Warriors, 2 Splinter cannons
Raider

Dracite
Drugs
Agoniser
Pistol
Shadowfield

Same idea as combo 1 except it costs 5 points more and has much greater efficiency.

I have seen people using puniahers for archons before but they arn't that effective only good against large Armys like nids, orcs, eldar and tau because of the +1 str it can kill mose of them easily.

But i use agonisers they work for me better.
