I have oticed that DE is one of the best MSU armies and although it is tougher to use, it can be very effective. I thought of this list and thought it woulod be fun to play, tactically challengng, and play competetively.
Cold One Chariot
Cold One Chariot
Seal of Ghrond
X2 20 Warriors
X2 10 Corsairs
X3 5 Dark Riders
6 COK (BSB Here)
X2 10 Executioners
2 Repeater Bolt Throwers (Just in Case)
That's 2 big infantry units, one hard hitting unit, two rankbreaking chariots, 7 fleers/ redirecters/ flankers, and 2m BTs for big nastys. How does it look.
2009 Tourny records (W-L-D) (20-4-4):
9/56, 1/12, 2/14, 4/14, 32/82, 1/6, 16/72
Actually looks farily good.
I would drop the Sorceress' Dark Steed however. She wont cast any spells so running her around in the open is a needless risk. Keep her on foot and hide her in a forest/building.
Bump the general's shield up to an Enchanted Shield. Chariots dont offer a lot of protection like they used to.
Consider dropping 1 unit of 10 Corsairs to bump your spearmen up to 25 strong each. You'll still have plenty of flankers without the 2nd Corsair unit.
Executioners need to maximise attack power. So a front of 6 including a champion should be minimum. Consider merging the 2 units into 1 unit of 14 with FC and War banner, then use the spare points for something else.
Cannons or Dwarven bolt throwers will negate this list, as they tend to eat Chariots for breakfast.. Barring that, it should be ok with a few tweaks.
Dont only view chariots as flankers. If you smash 2 of them + a Noble into the front of a unit, they will crush it (unless you roll very badly for impact hits)
If you do use them that way, keep the second chariot near the general, it will still benefit for Ld9 even without its own Noble. So that could allow you to put the 2nd Noble on foot with the Spearmen, to bolster them.
I think if you use them both with Nobles as flankers, you'll find you have too many flanking units and nothing that can stand up against the enemy head on.
Also, you might find that a unit of 14 Black Guard make a better 'tar-pit' unit than spearmen. Except against fear causers.
