This is the 1000pts I'm really happy with, but is there anything I'm still not noticing?
Sorceress - Level 2
Sacrificial Dagger, Dispel Scroll
10 Repeater Crossbowmen
19 Warriors (Full Command, Shields)
5 Cold One Knights (Full Command)
17 Black Guard (Full Command, Banner of Hag Graef)
Reaper Bolt Thrower
I think you need to make you mind up before others can give you suggestions on the list(s).
Do two lists, the ones you like the look of best and then people can comment, at the momnet you are asking people to make suggestions on the pros and cons of 4 different lists and no one will spend time doing that for you, and people also cannot therefore comment on how your units work well together.
I can sugesst a few things for you though. units of 5 harpies dont work to well. you loose one and they become only 25% as affective than if they were unit size 5+. Same for shades.
Hydras are hard as nails and draw alot of fire power away from your main units, so if you take one i sugest that you dont pin it as the main brunt of your force as it will take away from the rest of your army if there is a misshap and it dies.
10 Black gaurd...way to small to win many fights, and too expensive to just throw away in a fight. If you want 10 anything take exercutioners with the Banner of Murder for some -4 goodness.
Dark riders, really good as you have them.
With elves...torn over this one. supported they are v.good but give the hag either manbane or witchbrew, little point of hand of khaine on witch units IMO.
Assasins are v.good, but due to points costs in a small game i would only take 2 max and that was if my force concentrated upon core units. Good to guard you sorceress units with but costly if it goes wrong.
Cold ones, no need for banner of slaughter if used right. instead the Pearl of Infinate Bleakness will serve you 100x better.
Shields on crossbows also a real must if you have the points left.
Hope this helps a little,
Ha ha! I will.at the momnet you are asking people to make suggestions on the pros and cons of 4 different lists and no one will spend time doing that for you
List 1: Looks like my favorite option. Warriors really need the block of 20 IMO and Dark Riders are nice to have along. Also, war hydras are really nice especially at 1k. I'll have to agree with the other poster that 5 harpies may not be effective. Idk, you could give it a try.
List 2: Executioners don't go over well with me. They seem overpriced and striking last doesn't help.
List 3: No. Assassins just don't seem appropriate for small games. Plus, you've only got one block of ranked troops with this option (BG at 10 guys is not much of a block...).
List 4: Witch elves are pretty good, but 9 of them...?
Overall Impression: In every one of these options you've really only got 1 block of ranked troops and they - the warriors - can't really support themselves in CC. I'd suggest strating with two decent sized (3 ranks+) blocks of some troop (BG, Corsairs, Warriors) and build around that. War hydras are nice - not a bad idea to bring one.
Okay, I changed the first post to the list I've "sort of" settled on. But is there anything else that can be improved? Saltrock, i know you said that I don't need the Standard of Slaughter on the Cold One Knights but for the moment I think I'll just give it a go.
Also, are the Black Guard big enough now? That gives me two ranked units, i was tossing between the ASF banner or a few more BG. I stuck with the banner in the end.
Good stuff. That list looks a lot better
Only alteration I can think of is to drop one Cold One for a couple more warriors and another crossbow (or one more BG). 5 Cold Ones can work by themselves at most point levels - even more so at 1000. Add in the SoS, and those knights have all the stuff they need with just 5. Saltrock is right that you don't need the SoS, but it still helps a lot! The BG look big enough now - ASF was a good call too I'd say.
It's really a nice list you've got (IMHO).
Thanks AVS. Although I realised i was actually over points! I have once again changed it. But I'm happy with this, even without the Standard of Slaughter. Stable all round IMO. Your final opinions?
Oh and one other thing: I don't see how the Pearl of Infinite Bleakness help the Cold One Knights, as the Immune to Psychology rul in the BRB says nothing of Stupidity, only Panic, Fear, and Terror. Could that be clarified for me please?
My bad on that part. I jumped the gun thinking because stupidity was in the Psychology section of the book that it fell under the immune to pschology rule. Having followed up your point I now see you are totaly rite on this point and the pearl on said unit wouldn't have the affect I thought it would, instead only affecting them as you say.
Apollogies for my mistake.
Like the new list, little I can find that I would change. Not to sure how the bolt thrower will fare by itself but should add that extra missile power.
