There is a major tournament approaching in my area and a friend of mine and I want to compete in the doubles portion of the tourny. It's 1k each, spliting the rules of a 2k army between the two forces (1 lord choice between the 2, 2 hero choices each, min 1 core each with 1 more for one person, 1 rare each ect). Rules/points are split and non-transferable (if i have 40 points left over,I cannot give them to my partner).
We thought we would post our concept list on the forums for some guidance/feedback.
Neither of us are too familiar with the Tourney play style and I haven’t had a chance to field the new chaos troops yet, so we would appreciate any/all advice and insight suggested. Time is getting short and we need to settle on a list to go into production very soon.
Level 3 sorceress with Black staff and a Dispel Scroll
Battle standard bearer with Standard of Slaughter
15x Corsairs w/ Full command and sea serpent standard
Exhulted Hero on a steed with the Axe of Korne
Sorcerer of Nurgal, level 2 with the infernal Puppet and conjoined homunculus.
5x Marauder horsemen w/ throwing axes and the mark of slaneesh
5x Chaos Knights with the Mark of Nurgal
The plan is to stay tight with fast-moving hard-hitting troops and take a flank to prepare for taking objectives, with some mobile shooting for support and some bombs to be dropped in the magic phase. The list started out with a unit of warriors instead of the giant, but the giant seems like it might be kinda mean so I thought I might try that. I also had a tzeech sorcerer that was traded out for the hero, since the list lacked any close combat characters. The unit of Corsairs was reduced in size to aquire the shades for some extra support/marchblocking. I’m not sure if we are on the right track with this idea or not, and if we aren’t where we should be looking.
Thanks in advance for thoughts and feelings. (I love feelings)
Take all that into consideration and good luck
A great combo for a DE/WoC list would be to go nuts on the magic. Tzeentch casters with the Infernal Puppet/Black Tongue combo combined with DE Sorcery gives you an extremely powerful magic phase.
Alternatively, you could go all cav with Dark Riders and Hydras backing up Marauder Horsemen and Knights.
Let the Warriors take their heavy hard hitters while you focus on lighter, speedier units and it should work out fairly well.
I think I'd rather have a Tzeentch Sorc lord than a level 4 Supreme Sorc, you have a better chance of rolling Infernal Gateway. Give your Lord the Infernal Puppet and some extra fighty bits (mounting him on a steed gives you +2 to his armor), like a Talisman of Protection and a Runesword to keep him good in combat. After that, equip the other Sorc with the Black Tongue (combined with the Puppet it is a potential game winner). Then for the DE you can take a Sorc with the Sacrificial Dagger in a unit of Warriors to generate even more PD. Add the Ring of Hotek in there somewhere and you will completely dominate the magic phase by putting out a ridiculous number of power dice and destroying enemy mages through miscasts (caused by the Ring and Tongue) and the puppet.
If you want a fighty character, a Master with the Pendant of Khaleth and the Soul Render works like a charm. Put him on foot in a unit of Black Guard (Banner of Hag Graef and the Ring) and you have an extremely potent unit. 4+ armor and the super ward ftw. Or, put him on a Cold One with full mundane and a lance (0+ save and super ward). Alternatively, you could go all magic and leave the fighting to Chaos Knights and Assassins.
Corsairs are extremely good at tearing up basic infantry, but I'll agree that the BSB isn't needed in there. Warriors don't do much fighting, but they are cheap and provide plenty of static combat res.
Dark Riders are cheap, speedy, and extremely flexible. They help cover the problems WoC have (lack of fast units).
Another fun idea is to go for the monster list. DE take a Black Dragon and Hydra while WoC take a Hellcannon or Giant and Throgg to make Trolls core
Thanks everyone for the ideas and feedback. I've discussed these ideas and some options with my partner and the veterans at my hobby store. the new version looks like this:
Chaos Lord on barded steed with a shield, Axe of Khorne, Collar of Khorne, Helm of many eyes, Mark of Tzeech. (1+ armour, 5+ ward, Magic resistance of 2, 5 Str 6 killing blow attacks)
16 chaos warriors with Full command and additional hand weapons with the mark of khorne
12 Chosen with full command, sheilds, favor of the gods, raptious standard
5 chaos hounds
Level 2 Sorceress w/ dispell scroll and darkstar cloak
Level 2 Sorceress w/ dispell scroll and tomb of furion
10x RxB w/ shields
10x RxB w/ shields
8x shades with great weapons
Cold one Chariot
This army is a little more balanced. the magic is still potent without being massive, with a serious CC character. Lots of shooting to force enemys to close the gap, with 2 fairly strong CC units with support from the chariot/hydra/shades (8 hatefull attacks at str 5 is decent).
there is still a bit of play-room for the chaos side, I am considering lowering the lord to a hero and getting either another level 2 mage or bulking up the units i already have (possibly adding a chaos chariot or warshrine)
The Dark elf side seems pretty tight, I don't think it will be played with very much at this point.
Thanks everyone for the help, more suggestions/feedback is still apreciated =D
