I think your lord has a better chance of killing the general than the assassin. Infact, I think the assassin is a load, I would drop him. You can't have the same magic banner on 2 different units, and your spearmen units need to be quite a bit bigger. Fast cav would help. If you have the points, go ahead and mount the Master and give him a sea dragon cloak. Dreadlord needs a seadragon cloak as well. Touch of Death and extra attacks is better on the assassin than manbane if you're set on taking him. make sure he has an extra hand weapon as well.
thanks for the input i was thinking about dropping the dragon mount and switching the crossbows out for 5-10 more spearmen in each unit and that would give me 370-400 more points to play around with like mount the lord and master on cold ones and take 3 bolt throwers or just 2 and another master/sorceress or i could probably fit the cold ones 2 bolt throwers and a war hydra i just hate putting together metal models and im looking for something i could use as dark riders and black guard
The smart VC player will have a unit champion challenge your assassin to keep from getting whacked. The Lord will suffer the same fate, squishing the unit champ only to have it get raised every turn.
Against VCs you want to put him on the back foot. Inflict so many casualties that he has to keep raising to stay afloat, which in turn keeps him from using the good stuff like Vanhel's. Go after his faster units like Black Knights and Blood Knights and keep pressure on his casters. If he goes casty, he won't be fighty, so send in multiple units. Don't challenge as he will accept against your Lord with his champ or your champ with his Vampire, just make sure both are in BtB so you can accept his challenges with a champ while your Lord butchers his.
