OK so I hope that what i am doing does not break any rules. After 7 years playing 40k I have been urged to start fantasy, which I am planning to do. At first I was told to go for High Elves as they are a good army to learn with, but after hearing many complaints from friends and people at my club i decided not to. Instead i am running their evil counter parts, the Dark Elves.
So I have bought the rule book, the Dark Elf army book and a whole bunch of miniatures, but I have no idea what a good list looks like or how to go about making a competitive list.
Thats where you guys come in. I could go to the guys at my club and get their help, but I want to surprise them by turning up with an already strong army. So if I run through the mountain of Dark Elf stuff I bought could some of you vets put together an army list.
It doesn't have to be easy to use, I can learn the rules as i play and get tactical advise from the players at my club. Like i said I would like to turn up with a good list though.
So this are the models I have to use.......I can buy more if necessary.
Dreadlord on Cold One
2x Supreme Sorceress
Sorceress, foot and mounted on cold one
40 Dark elf warriors with spear and shield
32 dark elf warriors with repeater crossbows
10 cold ones
10 dark riders
10 black guard
3 repeater bolt throwers
Yeah i kinda went crazy and bought A LOT of stuff. But i had some spare cash and wanted a new army so whatever. So what do you think, can you build me a worthy army?
Welcome to the Dark Elves. You won't be disappointed, it's a great army.
2250 Dark Elves
Supreme Sorceress-level 4, Sacrificial Dagger, 2 Null Talismans
Master (converted from Dreadlord)-BSB, Hydra Banner, lance, shield, heavy armor, sea dragon cloak, Cold One
Sorceress-level 2, Darkstar Cloak, Dispel Scroll
Warriors-34 (no shields, or 29+ with shields), lordling
Dark Riders-5, crossbows, musician
Dark Riders-5, crossbows, musician
Cold One Knights-5, full command, Standard of Slaughter, Null Talisman
You stick the Supreme Sorc with the big unit of Warriors and use them as a magical battery, avoid combat but use the lordling for challenges if you run into problems.
BSB goes with COKs and tears things up, fairly simple.
Second Sorc adds some magical firepower, feel free to trick her out differently (Hydra's Teeth and Dark Pegasus would be a nice pick).
Corsairs and BG are for flanking to protect your backfield.
RxBs and RBTs shoot.
Hydra can hold a flank of its own.
DRs run around march blocking, baiting and hunting war machines. I'd prefer Shades, but you don't have any.
seems like a good starting list. I would make my own changes but as I have ZERO experience with Dark Elves and very little in WHFB itself I dont know what to change lol.
Any more input very welcome.
Also..... I can buy more models, so if you think i should get some shades Me, i could pick some up.
Shades are very handy. WS/BS 5 (plus hatred), RxBs, great weapons, scouts, skirmishers, and so on make them very attractive, probably some of the best of their kind in the game. Dark Riders work as well, they're just a little less killy and faster instead.
Maybe i could interchange the two depending on my opponent? when i need speed take the Dark riders, when i need something a little more hitty take the shades?
