My local club is having a 400 pt tournament. A lord with a bodyguard unit. I have two lists in mind. Let me know what you think.
Dreadlord with executioners axe, HA, SDC, Talisman of Protection 247
4 WS7 attacks with ASF, S is 2x target's T so wounding on 2s, causing D3 wounds per.
Blackguard x4, FC, Hag Graef (ASF), Vet-Crimson Death-147
3 WS5 S6 attacks, 6 WS5 S4 attacks with ASF and always rerolling to hit.
Not to mention stubborn and immune to psychology
Master with hydra blade and sword of battle-130
5 +D3 WS6 S4 attacks
Assassin (ASF) with hand weapon, touch of death, rune of khaine-151
5 +D3 WS9 S4 attacks with poisons and killing blow
Corsairs x4 with FC and Sea Serpent Banner (frenzy)
13 WS4 S3 attacks
Total: 367 which leaves 33 points for armor on master or more corsairs or cloak of twilight on sin.
I'm leaning more towards List 1 but will gladly accept any comments or suggestions.

I'm not sure I could really get into such a weird format. But if I were to make the lord, I would give him regen armor and the pendant, and put him in a mounted unit.
list 2 isn't legal, only can carry 1 magic weapon.
here is what I would run:
dreadlord, regen armor, pendant, SDC, shield, lance, cold one, crossbow ~ 265
5 cold one knights, no upgrades ~ 135.
I like your idea but changing it around a bit
master, bsb, hydra banner, ha, sdc, lance, shield, cold one ~ 214
CoK x5 vet, mus, vet-deathpiercer ~ 184
or should i go with banner over deathpiercer?
They are letting your character be a BSB instead of a general? What a bizarre format.
The reason I went with the dreadlord build is that he is virtually unkillable. 1+ armor, inverse ward save, and regeneration? Against S5 he has a 3+ a 5-, and a 4 plus save. He really should never take a wound from normal attacks, and certainly not the 3 required to kill him. Much more likely to get run down than to actually die. Cold ones don't need upgrades, so the naked unit is fine as a bodyguard.
If you have to make the choice between a banner and a magic weapon that auto kills 1 out of 6 hits as its only benefit, the banner at least always works.
I think the whole concept is rather awful. 1 unit vs 1 unit is interesting for teaching the game, but a tourney based around making mini deathstars with no support? bleh. TBH I won't comment any more on this.
