You can't take more than 1 arcane item; both sorcs are illegal. And you can only have 1 dispel scroll now.
I would change the level 2 to a BSB; preferably a COB BSB if you can round up a few more points for it. BSB's are super important in 8E.
I've heard from others that shades/harpies are better than dark riders at what they do; I've never tried them though. Your list lacks shades/harpies anyways so I'd try and fit those in there somewhere; you need something to deal with war machines.
Not sure how good the ring of hotek is anymore; you need the wizard within 12" of the ring now, not simply target within 12" (see the FAQs).
I'm not a huge fan of bolt throwers because of their cost; I'd change at least 1 to a chariot. Or perhaps that's where you can get points for a unit of shades.
As I said im still new to this so what does a COB BSB stand for if you don't mind me asking? and are you saying that I can only take one dispel scroll per army?
spearmen 4 ranks of six and should I split the crossbowmen into 2 sets of 10?
I am not understanding this debate what everyone is on about with the ring of hotek. The old version in the book still only affected wizards within 12" as does the new wording of it. So why is everyone now saying it's crap? am I missing something?
I will toss out there that some like to use spearmen in hoard formation (40+ strong, 10 wide). But, I never go that route.
The crossbowmen question is all about preference. Do you want a big block that can double as a combat unit? Or do you want smaller, more agile units that can target 2 different units? It's all about preference and strategy there.
When people talk about placing characters in units do they have to go on the front rank or anywhere you like? I know this is a noob question but im only a few months into this.
