So this is my first try at a Dark Elf list, tell me of you think it works or if i've gone a little overboard on the magic front. I was thinking of possibly dropping a sorceress for another Hydra but what do you people think? Thanks for any feedback...
I've never tried a magic heavy list in 8E yet, mostly because of the limited, and random, amount of power dice to go around now. Though, the sac dagger (especially on the level 4 dark sorc), 3 PoD's, and some possible channeling power could counter that....it could work. I might be more tempted to stick the darkstar cloak in there instead of the scroll.
Dropping a sorc for another hydra certainly can't be a bad idea if that's the route you want to go. I might try the magic heavy list just to see how it works first, then switch to a second hydra if you find you have just too many sorcs. You could also add another hydra by dropping a RBT and a few corsairs (I'm not a huge fan of RBTs and the SSS corsairs do well in smaller numbers too)
I'd be somewhat nervous sticking the metal sorc inside the frenzy corsair unit with no protection. That unit probably wants to see combat fast which is not what the sorc wants. Maybe stick her in the other xbow unit?
Musicians might be nice in the xbow units for a swift reform if the points presented itself.
The spears could really make use of the +1 Ld banner (standard of discipline). Your level 4 general will get Ld 10.
I would also really like to see how this list performs with a COB BSB instead of the master. With all that magic, a second hydra and a COB could really make it nasty.
Yeah I'm a big fan of magic so the 8th ed changes were not welcome. However, DE do seem to have the best potential for a reliable magic heavy list. Thanks for all your suggestians, will certainly be implementing some of them. Not sure if I can work another hydra in we shall have to see how RBT's fare. As an ex-high elf player i feel a bit nervous leaving home without them though. Also not sure about the CoB, not least because I have no idea how it works in 8th ed. Anyway might buy this army, test it out and see if it works.
