Supreme Sorceress Dark Magic
dark star cloak
seal of ghrond
armour of eternal servitude
Sorceress 160 Lore of Death
Sorceress 160 Lore of Death
Armour of darkness
touch of death
rune of khaine
Mainly its supposed to work as a wall of spearmen in 6x5 formation, with the executioners of the far right, the sorceresses are each in a unit, the supreme sorceress is in the same unit as the master and the two assassins are in the other spearmen units, mainly there to protect the sorceresses from challenges. this list is for us against my friends warriors of chaos, he mainly uses two units of warriors, a tzeetch unit with hw/s, and a nurgle unit with halberds, a horde of 30 marauders, chaos spawns, the hell cannon and two characters, level4, and a combat hero and 5 chaos knights.
my plan is to use the lore of death to snipe his characters, sniped the hero last game, plus spirit leech scares him so he once used 4 dispel dice to stop it, which let my level 4 do whatever she wants.
i considered different lores, knights, corsairs, crossbows., but my friend doesnt have enough points to go any higher. so any thoughts, suggestions, im fairly new to dark elves, started them in august, switching over from lizardmen after 6 years
planning on playing it saturday maybe a battle report afterwards
Wow, way too many points in characters and not enough units.
Can't give a sorc any armour.
I would swap the darkstar cloak and dagger; put the dagger on the level 4 and the cloak on a level 2. The level 4 will make way more use of the dagger than a level 2; especially with the level 4 using dark (most spells will go with just 1 dice and occasional help from the dagger). Instead of the armour, give the level 4 the PoK or 4+ ward talisman. Pass the seal to the other level 2 with the FF if you still want it in order to make the points work.
If you have a pegasus, a level 2 with PoK and FF makes for a pretty decent death build for sniping duties. Though with the pegasus, you probably wouldn't need the FF; the FF has lost some luster anyways. The pegasus can get you in good sniping range and the PoK protects the lone character aspect of the model. And it gets you a third wound on your level 2.
You only get so many dice with the winds of magic, but you've at least tooled yourself properly to get as many extra dice as possible. With 3 PoDs, a dagger wielding dark magic sorc, and cloak, you should be able to get away with having 3 sorcs.
Make the master a BSB; it will increase his army value by a lot. Otherwise, nice, solid, basic build for a footed master.
I don't think you need both assassins; use champs to protect from challenges. You have so many points in characters already that I wouldn't take either especially since they are so squishy; they WILL get hit back and die quickly in combat. The best use I've seen for them now is a rending star / manbane assassin in a unit of shades; very annoying unit. Plus your army lacks some light, fast moving units so a rending star / manbane assassin shade unit could really add an extra dimension to your army. If you don't have any shades, maybe use some corsairs for the models.
Too many spearmen. They aren't great for fighting, they are good for being steadfast and holding things up. Perhaps swap at least one unit out for your xbows or AHW frenzied corsairs. And make at least 1 spear unit big enough to survive the dagger stabbing and possibly give whatever spear unit your level 4 is in the banner of discipline to get a leadership 10 general.
If you are going to use the execs as a flanker, may I suggest dropping the champ and adding the banner of swiftness. No need to pay that much for an additional attack and if you are going to put them on a far flank, the +1 movement could really help get them into a flank which is exactly where you want them. They strike last and have very little armour; you want as few return attacks as possible. Make'em 4 ranks of 5 and with a 12" march you have a pretty mobile unit that has some good damage potential. Whatever you do though, don't send a small unit of execs like that into a frontal charge if you can help it; the outcome probably won't be favorable to them.
You lack punch other than the execs. Maybe from points saved from at least one assassin you can add some CoK or even a hydra if you have one. I would vote hydra over a small unit of CoK.
Anyways, just some ideas. Good luck!
i see what you mean about the units, and the magic, i typically try to minimize characters but i wanted to try something different, plus my friends army has very few units.
the thing about his characters and champions is they have to challenge, so a champion would save the sorceress for one turn, so the assassin is basically life insurance.
dont have a hydra yet, or shades, getting them for christmas so ill try those out afterwards.
how should i equip the shades ?
thanks for the advice, ill be changing around the items for the characters, drop an assassin and add some magic banners
most of the time i run a horde of executioners, with a death hag bsb with the asf banner, very successful against the flank of a bretonnian knights lance formation, 19 unsaved wounds on 15 models =). however one game the hag frenzied herself out of the unit.
