I'm relatively new to Dark Elves and was hoping I could get a few pointers in regards in my initial army list. I've been on a bit of a 40K kick recently and am not fully up to scratch on the 8th edition rules so if there's something wrong list-wise then that's my excuse!
*Level 4 (Lore of Shadow)
Pendant of Khaeleth
Tome of Furion
Crystal of Midnight
Master Battle Standard Bearer
Lance, Heavy Armour, Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak
30 Dark Elf Warriors
2x 15 Dark Elf Crossbowmen
Sea Serpent Standard
Additional hand weapon
8 Cold One Knights
20 Black Guard
Banner of Murder
2 Bolt Throwers
Any words of wisdom anyone might have would be greatly appreciated, especially if school boy errors have been made!
Good list, just one pointer and one question.
Question: Why not give the BSB Magic Items if you're not giving him a Banner.
Pointer: Why not give the Cold One Knights the Ranger Standard instead of the Razor Standard. With the Strider rule your Knights can happily go charging through trees etc with gleeful abandon. With S6 on the charge they don't really need Armour Piercing and if they're not charging what are you doing with them?
Oh, and why not give the Warbanner to the Spearmen (uses the AB's points value).
i think u should do 2 units of 30-35 warriors instead of the corsairs they are over priced imo and do 2 units of 10 crossbowmen with just musicians or 11 if you are putting a mage in there.also crystal of midnight can be switched with better stuff like seal of ghrond or the guiding eye if shes in a crossbow unit to get one turn of rerolls to hit.and give your bsb the regen armour or one of the ward save items from the brb theres talisman of preservation that gives a 4+ward save you dont want your bsb dying.or even give him the dawnstone giving him a rerollable 1+armour save

The Crystal of Midnight is a useful item, but the Seal is far more useful. The Guiding Eye is not too bad, but it's not great. Only useful if you have a character with Lifetaker in a large unit of Crossbowmen really, 10-11 Crossbowmen aren't exactly worth the re-rolls for the cost of it. Although the fact it's used after you roll to hit is pretty nifty there are better things to spend 25pts on.
Corsairs are over-priced? Sure, you can get 30-35 Spearmen for 20 Corsairs roughly, but the Slaver rule means they're more likely to get their points back. Corsairs now are better value than the previous DE AB - same points cost, no option for Handbows, no Slaver rule.
