Alright ive lately been thinking of begging dark elves. Now that my wood elves are almost done, im looking to start a competitive army, also im in love with the models. This is my first list so please, help me out.
So onto the list:
Cauldron of Blood
2 x 10 Reapeter Cross bowmen
Standard of Discipline
2 x 5 Harpies
2 x 5 Witch elves
20 Black Guard
10 Cold One Knights
Banner of Eternal Flame
3 x 10 Shades
Let me know what you think. Again i am new to Dark Elves so all comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.
What are the 2 units of 5 witchs for ?
3x10 Shades might be a bit excessive, but it could work well. Spearmen generally need to be in a unit of 30ish to have an impact, 16 will disappear in seconds.
2x5 Witch Elves is....interesting. I'm guessing your gonna use them as "suicide/monster hunter" units, which for 100pts is fair enough. The odds of it working aren't in your favour though.
Interesting list. Would be interesting to see how it plays out.
OKay well, spearmen are not for combat that is the first thing. They are there two hopd my wizard in behind my lines so shes not put in a bad spot. Witch elves work to protect the bunker from flanks from things such as miners, ambushers, etc. And as stated as a cheap monster hunter. Also if the harpies werent enough, i just throw them infront of an enemy as a redirector. The purpose of the list is to cause enough damage with shooting to force the enemy to advance on me. If the opponent doesnt, then he is letting me do what i want, and that is shoot the crap out of him. Wither in conjuction with the 100 shots, i can take of units. Shades are there as they can march and shoot, start up closer, free reforms, and higher ballistic skill, i prefer them over crossbows, but i need crossbows to fill the minimum core. Harpies can be used for redirecting, and if needed, to hunt warmachines. Coldones run around and scare my opponent, against hordes, put them ten wide and send them in with an extra attack from the cauldron. Again, this is an extremely defencive list, which fits my playstyle perfectly as i do play both wood elves and lizardmen, both which i play super defensive. So with all this in mind let me know what you think of the list, all comments and criticisms are welcome.
Just out of sheer interest whats the armour save on a cold one knight? do cold ones count as monsterous cavalry or get any additional bonus's other than stupidity?
Cold One Knights have a 2+ armour, and aren't monstrous cavalry. The bonuses that Cold Ones give are Immune to Psychology (due to Stupidity), Fear and count as being barded thus giving a +2 to armour saves (M7 takes that into account).
That army is not going to cause enough damage to heavily armoured units with shooting. You'll get 2-4 turns of shooting mostly hitting on 6s with the Crossbows) and the Repeater Crossbow isn't going to cause a large heavily armoured unit many problems. Wither will help wounding, but it won't solve the armour problem. Dark Elves do work as a shooting army, but you need Bolt Throwers and more shots (my 2.5k throws out 212 Repeater Crossbow shots and 24 S4 Bolt Thrower shots/4 S6 Bolt Thrower shots - 2x30 Crossbowmen, 16 Crossbowmen (Shields/Full Command on all) 15 Shades (1x5, 1x10) 5x3 Dark Riders, 4x Bolt Throwers, a 300pts Lvl 4, a cheap BSB and a 23 man Spearmen bunker. At 3k it's increased to 7 Bolt Throwes, 3.5k 8 Bolt Throwers and points on other things).
5 units of Witch Elves won't protect flanks well. Anything that hits them with the intent of killing Spearmen will tear through them, mainly as there aren't enough bodies to hold up an enemy and allow you to reform, also any unit hitting them will most likely kill them and over run into the flanks of your Spearmen.
And also, shields on Crossbowmen is a good idea.
