hey im just starting to play dark elf and ill be playing with my friend for fun mostly so this is what i decided to go with.
Lords and Heros
Dark elf Highborn
-sea dragon cloak
-gauntlet of power
Mounted on a dark pegasus
-seal of ghrond
Mounted on a Cold one
Mounted on a Cold one
20x warriors, full command
12x warriors, full command
20x Crossoirs, full command
10x Dark riders, full command
5x Cold one Knights, full command
1x War Hydra
1x Reaper bolt thrower
it totals to 1971.
This isnt my final list because i see so much other cool units ill want to try. Im thinking of some witch elves maybe. I took a hydra because i wanted a little more beef since my only heros are 2 sorceress. Also i love the look of the hydra lol.. So what do u think of the list?
If you are "just starting" I assume you haven't got all the models yet?
Hydras don't usually make up what they are worth, I'd consider dropping it and using the points for more warriors and another bolt thrower. Your hero selections are okay, but their wargear could use a little tweaking.
I find that corsairs are best used as flanking units and so don't need to be as large, as they have a decent save against shooting with their cloaks, and unlike warriors they don't have spears and so having too many ranks is wasteful. Perhaps cutting them back a bit would be wise, also- maybe buying a few more and splitting them into units of 12 or 15.
Dark Riders are an excellent unit, perhaps the one unit that really defines the Druchii- however, a unit of 10 is a little bit wasteful. Two units of five with a musician in each is better than what you have there. A third unit wouldn't be going quite that far over the top, either, if you have the money lying around to buy them.

I agree with poster above on the Corsairs and Dark Riders.
*Error* You have TWO Darkstar Cloaks with one on each Sorceress's.
The Highborn on the Pegasus is cool, but impratical. He has a T3 and will not do so well by himself. You may get better results with a Highborn on a Coldone. The Malus model is pretty easy to find and not too pricey as well.
I would be tempted to reverse two character choices in that regard as well. Take the Lord choice as a Sorceress (level 4) and the Noble on coldone as the second while keeping the Level 2 Sorceress. By lowering the Corsairs to ten models and the dropping of Pegasus you could swing a 3rd level 2 Sorceress. DE's get a bonus to casting rolls for free and Dark/Shadow magic is way cool.
I would suggest taking the sorceresses off those cold ones - they're more manouvrable on foot, and you don't want an expensive (lone) sorceress going stupid!
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone

Take Dark Steeds on your sorcereses you'll get nuts of stupidity of the coldones with that Ld...
Change the enchanted shield with Shield of Ghrond to make him T4. Otherwise I think that a pegasus is good... I often use dark pegasuses. If you can afford it use a manticore.
Ditch the crossbow unit, seperate your dark rider unit to have 3 dark rider unit with 5 each... they rock!
Have two units of 10 carsairs each or just have one unit of 10 chorsairs.
Ditch the hydra, get another boltthrowrer... try to squese in another sorceress or a battlestandard (hydra banner) in your coldone unit.
If you want to take out warmachine crews or/and enemy wizzards use shades or harpies.
Well, I have a few ideas.
On the lord, I think that you ought to change the enchanted shield on the highborn to a shield of Ghrond. It is better than T4, as zhaf put it. You need to remember, that effectively boosts your save up as though you were using an enchanted shield (except against strength 3 or lower attacks). Also, he is your general, I would reccomend him on a cold one (better save) so that he gets to go with the Knights.
Put your Sorcs on dark steeds, one in each unit (I will talk about the riders later). Also, switch one of the cloaks with a Tome of Furion.
Then, split up the riders, musician and herald in each. The herald is only there to block challenges. You don't need the standards, if you get into CC, you will need more than that to help you. Give them RxBs, if you dont, the herald is wasted.
To pay for all of the changes I have suggested, you would need to drop 4 Corsairs. That would fix the points. Lets just hope you live in britain, or don't mind buing parts. The big cost factor is the RxBs on the Riders.
Where's your Baritone Saxophone?
I think his highborn on a flying monster will do better cause the lord is really better of charging characters rather than units... at least at the beginning... taking out enemy wizards and such to make shure that his own magic goes through. The lord can help his CoKs later when they needs it.Originally Posted by Grand Master Overcannon
oh and crossbows should be easily gained from the warrior spures
No, I'm saying that the RxBs are a big point cost factor in my suggested changes. The other comment was that in the US, he would need to buy 23 corsair models, and only use 16 of them. I don't like doing that.
Now, my reasoning for putting the highborn in the COK unit is because hardly anyone would benefit from the leadership if he is off flying around.

Hm... the CoKs have one Ld less than a highborn, they don't really need that costy Ld upgrade. IMO the highborn is better of killing characters in turn one instead of slowed down by the coldones.Originally Posted by Grand Master Overcannon
i think if ur playing for fun, keep the hydra cuz he's cool, and its fun to play with big things
Expect the worst, so you won't be disappointed.
