hey, i am rather new to dark elves and i still havent been able to buy any of my stuff but here the list i plan to start my army with...
Noble, Halberd, Heavy Armour, Dragon Sea Clock - 84
15 dark elves warriors, spears, shields, standard, musician, Lordling - 145
12 dark elves warriors, rxbs, shields - 144
5 dark riders, rxbs, musician - 127
total - 500 pts
Well with looking over some forums and seeing the use of the combat rxb warriors acting like a detachment, I was going to try for the noble in a CoC but i dont have the points, Ill just leave it till or if i move up to 1000pts .
all opintions welcome, cheers
Pretty solid list. I would just prefer to use a reaper bolt thrower rather than the dark riders at this point level, just because it can decimate small units at a distance. your choice though.
Where's your Baritone Saxophone?
Thx Grand Master Overcannon for your reply, Hmm i would like to put the RBT in but was more valueable and effective??. the 10 rxb shoots a turn or 6 rbt a turn?
I was also worried about how i was going to deal with chariots and ogre kingdom in 500 pts?
Perhaps the rbt is a wiser choice, i look in to it and get both of them and then give it a shoot see how they do in battle.
I'd rather switch the warriors with xbows to a boltthrower... as DRs can shoot just as many times and can march block... and shooters in the second rank doesn't do anything besides standing there. Use the 44pts to buy more equipment on your noble. Deathmask is a intressting choise... cause terror = fleeing units... in such smal game you'll effect the whole enemy army. otherwise the Shield of ghrond + sword of might is a nice combo too (equals T4 S5 and 3+sv). Armour of Darkness + Blade of Spite (2+sv and auto wound if roll 5 or 6 to wound). You'll need to realease some more pts of you plan to tool up him this much... maybe remove the lording in your warrior unit?
Ogers are easy to beat... at that pt level he can only afford one hero and 2 core choises... have your Dark Rider unit block marches ans shoot at his gnobars if he has any... otherwise just shoot at his ogers... the boltthrower shoot at his big guys... you should have taken down one unit of ogers and made his gnobars flee at the time he reches you. Then your spear block should manage to hold them and your dark riders flank/rear them... then your patrol will have oger stew for dinner (doesn't sound very tastey though )

Thx Zhuf for your late reply.
I was messing about with your ideas on army builder, The combo of the shield of ghrond and sword of might is a good combo, it puts him to 130 pts.
I have decided that ill take the RBT instead as it more effective in 500pts, also ill be writing up a army diary when i do eventaly start them up cause i have seen alot of other people do them and its a good read i guess, what do you think? it will proberly be up to 2000 pts just as soon as i can get the money in really thx for your help.
Please do not forget about the point
in the border patrol rules, which will deny your choise of a noble for 130 points.
- No single model may cost more than 125 points.
I would take the death mask, but this will limit your other choises to toll the hero -
a nice and cheap option is the blood armour...
And take the RBT because it can harm even the heavy ones.
I really like the original list actuli,(Y) the dark riders will be very valuable in 500 points where a flexible unit really helps. If u included the bolt thrower you would be very weak against armys which contain either fast cavalry or scouts, they will have little difficulty killing ur bolt thrower and crossbowmen, and then can run rings around ur only combat unit. The army including the bolt thrower would also be very weak against armies which may outshoot you (although its unlikely many 500pt armies could do that). If u faced a serious shooty army then u wouldnt have a chance since u couldnt really be able to deal with enemy shooters or wizards for that matter. U have no magical defence and so u woud need some kind of threat to enemy wizards - exactly what dark riders woud provide.
As far as im concerned the original list with the dark riders is far better and gives your more flexibility.
The list very nice, the dark riders will cause havoc on the flanks.
Be careful of the skaven 500pt armies, with access to the engineers, that cast 2d6 str5 magic missles, they can reck small units.
I just played a 500pt battle and won 1 out of 2. The one win was due to the dark riders. But that spell messed up my army.
