To my credit, I managed to destroy both chariots. However, my dark riders couldn't even force a panic test on a unit of 5 warhounds with 2 rounds of shooting, and this caused my plan to fall apart.
Also, I have infinitely increased respect for Cold One Knights. 2+ armor, leadership 9, and S4 hits in continuing combats from the cold ones! Ruling. I think I shall be taking a unit of them from now on. I used them very poorly: they got caught unexpectedly by an overrunning beast-herd in the flank, then hit by a chariot and a unit of marauders. However, they survived 3 close combats without losing a guy, and killed the chariot! Finally they died to static CR, and were effectively pursued. sigh.
I think my biggest failing was not controlling the movement phase effectively. I'm wondering whether removing the corsairs (and warbanner) and swapping them for another unit of 20 spears and as many harpies as I can afford (6?) would be a good move? This would give me a unit which could engage warhounds, fastcav, etc. early in the game and work with the dark riders to control the movement phase. It'd also give me a better shot at taking out warmachines.
This likely to be a good move? And does anyone have a time-frame for new DE to be released? I dislike the harpy models, but I think HE are coming out next, so I'd be waiting for a LONG time if I don't get them now.
Any other thoughts on how I could have approached the battle?

i dont mind that list at all. youve accually fit a surprising amount in, considering the use of 20 corsairs.
I cant see why youd want harpies. They're good for crew hunting, but why did you come up with this idea just after a game against chaos??? the dark riders you have are much better i think.
Also, i think more spearmen would get you on the backfoot from the start. 1x20 is enough at 1k, and without too much shooting in the army, your guys shouldnt be hanging back much. Maybe drop 5 corsairs, so you have 15, drop the warbanner to fit those harpies in. (These guys are gonna be critical at 1.5k level, again for crew hunting, so any models you buy wont go to waste.). Then, maybe flank with the corsairs??? 20 is just so damn expensive.
ashame you didnt have a chariot in the list against those beastmen. They now lose their rank bonus against single models, and with a t5 chariot, it would hardly even have been hurt at all. Plus fear, and you wouldve made a mess of them. Maybe try to fit this in over your harpies??
Anyway, keep playing around with the list by all means. Just remember with harpies, ws3 and s3 means only 1/4 of their attacks will would, against a t3 opponent. 6 harpies is only 3 wounds against the marauders, then they get armour. Kepp that in mind. they are my no means an uber flying unit, like screamers or furies.
The chariot might be a really good idea, maybe I'll drop the 2nd infantry unit altogether and go with that. It makes my army really susceptible to stupidity though... I might also just spring for a 2nd unit of dark riders, I want two units in 2K anyway I think.
I actually like that list. It looks good. I think you just got unlucky with those crossbow shots against the hounds..
Im a fan of the 15-20 + Warbanner corsair unit, & ive had much success with it. It is however a little expensive for 1k.
I agree with timk111 that harpies arent so great, especially if the Chaos army has any fear causers... Chariots are indeed an option..
You could drop the corsairs entirely & take 2 of them, then swap the Sorceress for a cheap Noble so that the chariots can benefit for Ld9 for those pesky stupidity tests.. Maybe IN the chariot, maybe in the spearmen NEAR the chariot, plodding up the middle, while the Knights flank. Having 2 chariots together means they are strong enough to just hit things head on, and not have to fart around trying to flank..Knights are better for that.
Noble - Lance, Enchanted shield, Heavy armour, SDC, Seal of Ghrond.
20*warriors, shields, full command.
5*dark riders, RxB, musician
5*cold one knights, dread knight
Chariots with spears (Noble?)
Chariot with spears
Something like that.. Change the Nobles kit according if he goes with the spearmen
But as soon as you expand past 1000, I would re-add those Corsairs & sorceress.
The other option, as you said, is to drop the corsairs to 15 without Warbanner, 75 points will get you 6 Harpies if you really want them.
I'd get rid of the Spearmen Lordling unless thats where the Sorceress is going
Of course, you could just leave the list as it is. I wouldnt see a problem with that.
