Just curious what you guys think of this list. So far I have played it twice (once against Empire and the other against Dwarves) with 1 win and a draw - guess which was the "draw".
Highborn, coldone, enchated shield, sword of ruin, wand (doomstick)
Sorceress, dark steed, Black staff, Lifetaker, Dark Magic lvl.2
Sorceress, Darkstar Cloak, Seal of Ghrond, lvl.1
Assassin, manbane, rune of Khaine
6 CoK, dreadknight, musician, standard of slaughter (highborn goes here)
21 warriors, spears, shields, Lordling, Musician, Standard (assassin goes here)
5 Dark riders, spears, rxb's (sorceress on steed goes here)
5 Dark riders, spears
6 power dice
5 dispell dice
Spears and CoK take the middle flanked by the chariots. RBT's are outside the chariots and the dark riders are outside of them. Harpies find a path to the war-machines so they set up usually on the flanks and the Shades scout looking for soft and fast units. It looks like this:
My experience thus far:
Highborn - pretty good, strength is disappointing but he manages 2 kills average. He did kill a Dwarf Lord in 3 turns without taking a hit. Wand is a bust and I am re-thinking 40 points.
Sorceress lvl.2 - Lifetaker is ok - 1 kill avererage, not a huge killer. Black staff helps me roll alot of dice (with on 1 miscast in 2 games) but I did get a "word of pain" off against a handgun squad with a Hawkins rifle - very nice! Jury is still out though on this one although I do like having her on a Dark Steed, it gets her into range easily. Probably not needed against dwarves.
Sorceress lvl.1 - I've got one chillwind off but I use her first as to get the enemy dispell dice and scroll spent. I did manage to get a spell off twice but failed to wound. Since she gets her own power dice that leaves the remaining 4 dice for the Lvl.2 to play with. Twice now I attached her to a RBT - not too happy but she does get a couple chances to cast.
CoK - In both games they went stupid the 1st and 2nd turn, Grrrr!!! I rolled a "12" and an "11" in the same order and turn in both games, aaahhhh. Good news is they havent gone stupid after the 2nd turn. Decent productivity and good endurance in prolonged battle. They are unique and I like them. The standard of slaughter allowed me to break even on a charge of the Longbeards but did nothing against the Empire flaglants(?), stupid me. Probably change it to a War Banner.
CoC - They are the object of everyone attention. They attract cannons mostly but decent performers against Empire. The Dwarves knocked them out by the 2nd turn.
Spears - They're great, nothing special here. The Assassin I put in here didnt even show as the spearman never got charged. The assassin did show against the dwarves when I charged them against a dwarf warrior block with a Hero in it. The Dwarf challenged and the Assassin killed the Hero before it struck back. In the following turn the spears broke the dwarves and swept them taking their standard as well. I like this combo so far.
Dark Riders - Love them as they harass the enemy and even a newbie like me can manipulate them farely well. I will definitely get at least another unit of these guys. Not sure about the rxb's though - they dont hit much and they're kinda expensive. Perhaps I am not choosing my targets well.
Shades - Okay, I luv these guys. They harass the enemy very well and cause problems. They killed fast cavalry pistoleers and the hawkins rifle group. They also killed 4 slayers and drew them into the forest - they have managed to survive both games.
Harpies Now I used them poorly so their productivity is still "tainted" as I have used them before in 1500 points and they have managed to kill the cannons. So I failed a charge by half an inch and they were shot up - so far I have passed all morale checks with them (5 or 6 total, bizarre!).
RBT - have saved my bacon in most of my games. Against the dwarves they took the cannon out on the first turn and the organ gun in the 2nd. They are okay against foot targets but I never know which I should shoot, the one strong one or the 6 small ones?
What do you guys think? I dont have the experience to know otherwise.
Interesting read. Sounds like you are on the right track with the army.
I don't know if I'd bother with lifetaker on a sorceress. I'd field that sorceress some power stones/dispel scrolls.
I'm extremely suprised that the highborn managed to kill a dwarf lord, that is awesome. I also like the blade of rhuin, I'd use it to target knights and infantry dwarves more for kills...
I'd concentrate on lightly armored flankers/marchblockers/warmachine hunters with your RxBs. After that, I'd concentrate on removing ranks from foes you are unable to flank.
Arena of Death Champion: Nexim of the Guldskullz Tribe. Fear my wrath!
I was really lucky with the Lord against the Dwarf Lord. The Dwarf Lord had some magic item that boosted his "to-hit" to 3+ and he proceeded to roll 4 "2's" (in both cc phases). He did manage to hit me once but I had made the save save - just lucky I know.
Yah, Lifetaker will probably be on the chopping block - I would have to kill at least 2 per round to make those points back. Not sure about the power stone but I am already taking that risk with the black staff so its one or the other but not both.
