I was trying to write a magic heavy list today and I quickly found my character slots coming to over 850pts! This was with a level 4, 2 level 2's and a BSB. They all had equipment of some sort.
I can't help but think that I can still have a good magic offence but using considerably less points. I was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas. Thanks
If you want a super magic heavy list here is what you do
Morthai- sure she is damn expensive, but for what she does she is amazing. plus 2 to cast, picks her spells instead of rolling for them, so you can always have black horror, soul stealer, doombolt, and chillwind. the thing that i love about her is that you need a 2 to cast chillwind, and a 4 to cast doombolt, cause of her +2 to cast, also that makes things harder to dispel. hen she gets S 6 killing blow on the charge, and a handy dandy 4+ ward save.
then get 2 level 2 sorcoresses, each with dispel scrolls, cause you dont need anything else
then get a noble and equip him how you want so that he is survivable. like cold one, heavy armor, sheild, sea dragon cloak, crown of black iron, and a lance. he gets a 1+ save in cc, as well as S 6 on the charge, with a 5+ ward save, and immune to high and ligh magic. that makes your list very hard to beat, and your noble will be a hard hitter.
this way you get
10 power dice
6 dispel dice
4 dispel scrolls
this makes your magic prowess ungodly
the reason why i didnt have another sorsoress, is that you need a noble at least. he can be the difference between victory and defeat. he adds higher ld to the unit he is with, as well as going with 3 S 6 attacks. that takes out pretty much everything
But this setup is also extremely expensive. It would leave me with not many points to spend on the rest of my army at 2k points.
At 2k points magic heavy i usually play a defensive themed army with minimal offensive units for counter charges and the like. (such as you noble with a support unit of knights).
3 blocks of 20 warriors with full command comes in at only 555 points. Add in 2 units of 10 crossbowmen and a couple of repeater bolt throwers and you are at 975 points leaving you with a solid defensive core to your army, and over a thousand points to spend on characters and that support unit of knights (5 with full command come in at 190).
My 2 cents worth,
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!
