Greeting esteemed members of the Forums,
I have just started working on a Dark Elf Army. I was wondering how you feel about Dark One Riders with repeater crossbows?
I want my core forces to be useful, and not rely too much on things like War hydras, and war machines.
I like my repeater crossbows, but they seem to me ineffective against dwarves, and I only seem to ever fight dwarves. (I might face some High elves by the end of the month...but no guarantees)
What is the most indespensible unit/piece of equipment in a dark elf army?

Well, generally it's definately worth giving crossbows to Dark Riders, since one of their main functions is harrassment. If they dont have crossbows then really they arent much of a threat unless they charge into combat, where they fall pretty quickly. So having the crossbows lets them avoid combat, while still forcing your opponent to have to deal with them.
However against dwarves, I'd say dont bother! T4 and good armour make S3 shots a total waste of points. Dark Riders are usually in units of 5, so with 10 shots, you are looking at maybe 1 dead dwarf every second turn..
hitting of 5's = 3 hits, 1 wound, which is saved half of the time.

I use them for the assholishness of it. It stings people are annoyed and sometimes let me play ring around the rosie with the unit I keep shooting.
