I've been playing fantasy and dark elves for just over a year now and just found this forums the other day. Anyways i love the idea of assasins and am trying very hard to figure out how to make them pay for their points, any one have pointers on how best to outfit and use them?
Also in 2000 and 3000 point games how much magic defense should be taken for a MSU list. Lately i have mostly been playing against VC and HE, and have been getting slaughtered in the magic phase, against those armies thats somewhat expected and while i don't want to tailor my army for any specific opponent i can't help but feel i am doing something wrong.
If you post an army list we can give you more specific help.
As a general rule 3-4 dispel dice and 2 dispel scrolls should be plenty for a 2000pt game.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
for magic defense i take a noble with the seal of ghrond and a lvl 1 caddy with 2 scrolls and mind you i play slann lizzies alot so i know how it feels to get crused in the magic phase, but normaly i find that i can dispell 2 spells per turn with this setup so that makes it a little bit easier.
as for assassins i would go with
extra hand wep and the rune of khaine(whatever iteam gives you an extra attack) and i dont know how much that costs but if it is only 25 points then i would give him manbane too. so if my idea for prices is right for 175ish points you get 5 WS9 attacks that wound on a 3 +(normally) so hit on 3s and wound on 3s i think is best for this guy. eventhough he is called an assassin he really has a hard time killing characters and i feel that he is more likey to make his points back in a unit of spears, and although he may only kill 3 models he probaly tipped the combat in your favor allowing you to petentiolaly win the battle.
