Iam looking to create a small 1k dark elf force just to get started before the new army book arrives. I was curious tho to which is the usual set up for the army general in a 1k point army? Are they normaly mounted on a dark steed or cold one and joining a small unit down the flank? Or are they usually used on foot at the front of blocks of infantry? Thanks for any advice/help
I have just started DE myself too, welcome to the Druchii. To come to you're question, IMO it depends on wich enemy you face. If you play just in the local store(and all kinds of armies), I think you should let him be in a cold one knights unit and mount him on a cold one. This will make you're flank charge even more devasting. As I usually play against our most hated enemy(HE), I mound him in a chariot. If you want a defensive armie, you just should leave him on foot in a unit of 14 Corsairs, in offensive style, you could do the same, ot mount him on a cold one.
It really depens IMHO on the sort of armie you want, and the armie you'll face.
I recently used a noble on dark steed and he worked wonders but he does stop the dark rider unit that he joins from using free reforms.
I would also recommend using a cold one mounted noble.
Agreed, mounted on a Cold One is almost the universal choice, even up to 2000pt lists.
I tend to put my Sorceresses mounted on a Dark Steed in a unit of Riders so they can quickly get into casting range.
i like my noble simple and cheap
always worked well for me
in smaller games he can be by himself or in a unit of cold one knights, also if im playing against a fear causing unit ill throw him in a block of spears for the fear immunity (however i only do this when my spears can not afford to break as I dont like units of spears going stupid on me.)
Ok, thanks for the replies and advice. I think ill buy the malus model and use it as my general. Put him in a small cold one unit. have a small hard hitting unit down the flank.
Just to tack on to this thread - what's a good set-up for a Noble on a Dark Steed? Frankly, I can't stand the Cold One model -
I was thinking about
Heavy Armor/Sea Cloak
With a good sized unit of dark riders, of course.
I ran a noble with exactly the same setup as the cold one and stuck him with a unit of dark riders as a quick hard hitting flanker. The free reforms are great!
Sorry to dissapoint you swntzu, but if you have a noble on DS in a unit of DR then they can't use the free reform ability because the noble isn't fast cavalry...
