I just bought an assassin model because I've been wanting to start Dark Elves for the past couple years, but everytime I get the urge to buy a box of Warriors, someone yells out "You should wait, the next book is coming out soon." Finally the new book is arriving and new models are coming out. But I still wanna play them before the rules change. Only thing is, I'm not sure which models are DEFINITELY not changing. I've heard rumors on what is and what isn't, but I wanna know what is for sure not changing.
I was wondering this question, Ive recently come back from a break in the hobby and had started a dark elf army just before i left so thought i might pick it back up again.
I would imagine that the Black Guard wont change, or shouldnt because the models are just so good, infact some of the best GW have made i think. Executioners also I think after all the fighting people went through over the light/heavy armour debate. but on the whole I dont know. Hopefully more character options are coming out, all armies with the same damned sorceress with the twin pointy hat is just silly...
We won't know absolutely for certain for another few months or so. I wouldn't go buying much until the new book comes anyway, there's an excellent chance you'll re-evaluate your army and the units you use.
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone

I was at my local GW today and my sources said you would be safe in buying:
Stuff that's getting redone may include:
Corsairs (for sure, plastic)
Lords and sorceress (for sure)
New cold ones (but I didnt hear about the rider).
I still don't know about the Dark Riders but I am thinking they are not changing at all. I also haven't heard anything about the RBT's, I figured they are fine as is anyway.
As for brand new additions to the army you can look at Geisticon's post and see the unfamiliar names.
I don't know what all the fuss is about. I like my models, and when the new ones come out, I'm going to stick with what I have.

I completely disagree with the "If you like the models, buy them" idea. Buy the model if you LOVE it. Not just like it.
I liked the old VC skeletons. The new ones I like even more. I'd never field old VC skeletons. I liked them during their time. Yet I have a new love.
A like of something will be destroyed when you run into something you love or like more. Don't buy unless you love them IMO. I really liked (wouldn't say love.) the (now old) Von Carstein models. I'd still use them today.
Judge how you like things carefully. For you may not like it compared to the new.
