I made the horrendous decision the other day to buy the Malus Darkblade omnibus, and haven't been able to put it down since. What doubles this catastrophe is that it's making me want to make a Malus based DE army. I've never played Dark Elves, but I do have 60 or so half skeleton Dark Elf spearmen for a Vampire Counts army. The thought was to buy some new skeletons and Corsairs, combine them, and have two largish Spearman units and a corsair, with support from I have no idea what.
Is this a viable base for a Dark Elf army? I've never seen a non-shooty DE army, or a non-elite based Elf army at all. Would I get hammered with this as the backbone of my army, and what should I add to make it live?
EDIT: Also, what is Rep Power and why am I becoming decadent?
1.I've got no clue on the rep power and usually ignore it.
2. I don't play with special characters and have no clue about what Malus does
3. Spearmen and Corsairs are decent core units. I don't see why you'd have to have to have shooting to win (it doesn't hurt for sure) but the DE have plenty of hard-hitting close combat units/characters/weapons and magic to make up for lack of shooting. Cold One Knights, Black Guard, Executioners, Assassins and even the master well equipped can make lots of kills. Harpies and dark riders can hunt enemy warmachines and darkmagic is very useful for shutting down enemy shooters and making you better in close combat.
Malus Darkblade is an awesome character... that is if you can get him into a good sweeping position, then he'll systematically destroy anything he touches with his S5 lightning claws. The only downside with Malus is that you MUST put him in a good over-run position as he will start tearing apart his own unit... if that happens, move him out of the unit and have him run around on his own.. just like a Masque of Slaanesh without the ward save

Anima Tactics - try it out!
First off the Malus book series is great i have read the whole thing and i hope there will be more books soon.
Second, how many points where you going to play with. That should determine how much of them you used. I have a 3000 point list and have 40 spearmen and 20 corsairs. Try and get some xbowmen instead of so many spearmen. That way they can act as a fire support unit for the core units. However, you will want to have a couple of elite units in your army to pack a punch. Even with using the low costing troops you aren't going to be able to outnumber your opponent because you are playing elves.
Reputation points are the total points of the rep that other people have given you, because they like your posts, thought models you posted were cool, etc. You can find your total and the latest 10 or so rep comments on your User CP.
Just use Malus as your general and dont worry about a lord choice. When he releases his daemon he is just as hard as a Dreadlord if not better, and background wise having malus lead your army/raiding force is sound. Wont ruin the 4th and 5th books for you if your not thier yet.
What else do you have on your mind for your list? Maybe post the list then see if people will think it will work and otherwise will suggest to you idea which will make it possible to make the army how you would like.
