I was wondering if anyone out there thinks that its worth it to take executioners anymore. The extra strength that they were given with the new book is great and when paired up with the cauldron they can have great hitting power. But seems to me that with black guard becoming special and bairly any more point wise thers no reason why you would wnat to take them. The guard are getting more attacks(true at a lower str) Are not going to suffer from striking last that comes with using a Great Weapon. They can also take a better banner than the executioners can. This is porbably what bothered me the most since i wanted to put the Always strike first banner on my executioners.
Hag battlestandard bearer + ASF banner + executioners = win (with a cauldron of blood = OMEGA win)
I think executioners are as good as black guard, just different situations apply. They do have killing blow, hatred, and great weapons /w strength 4! Even vinilla they are good special troops. Add the banner (35pts!) and they go first, add the cauldron they get an extra attack. With all these bonuses, they are incredible.
I think that executioners would be better if they could take a 50 point magic banner ( ASF anyone ), but without it they tend to die before they can strike back, and with average leadership for elves they will not allways be staying around after a lost combat.
Wood elf player- 2000 points worth, Autumn theme
Empire player - 3000 points worth, Green and white
Eldar player - 1500 points worth, Blue and white
S6 and KB, that's why.
Execs are ideal for opening up armored enemies and killing characters, while BG are more suited to holding and slaughtering basic infantry.
Ans you always have the option of a Hag BSB with the ASF banner, or the cheaper option of an assassin to make life easier.

They allow a 25 point banner, just outside of ASF range. Its like a kick in the nuts. There isn't really any good banners for 25 points anyway.
One unit of 20 Executioners full command
+ Death Hag BSB and the ASF banner
+ unit standard bearer with Armor Piercing banner
+ Cauldron nearby
= a unit that's ASF at S6 Hatred with armour piercing and KB, and is also Ldr8 Stubborn with BSB reroll break test.
They are almost the perfect offensive foot unit
Well, because it IS great to decapitate a chosen chaos knight just by rolling a 6 to wound. And as they say, with the ASF banner the opponent can get a nasty surprise if they don't know the army book too well.
They are still, good they just need a little more "setup" to make them as good as black guard. They definately have different rolls. THey are Khainite units, so in order to make the most of them, cauldron of blood is needed (ward save or extra attack) You can use the bsb if you like (make them stubborn 9 with CoB not , but they just come down to being a different type of unit in a differently themed DE army. They are not the all-around killers like the BG, but they do have their place. str6 infantry are never anything to scoff at. You'll just want to get the charge off and then they'll kill just about whatever you send them at (except for high elves)
Is it worth it to put a Hag Standard Bearer with theASF Banner in a unit of Executioners? That means no Hydra Banner in the unit of CoKs. What's the better choice when you onlu can take one?
Im thinking of playing the Hag+ASF banner combo and just march it straight up and the using a units of CoK on either side of it as heavy flankers. But not using the Hydra banner on the CoKs is just frustrating.
"The more choices you force the opponent to make, the better the chance for you to capitalize on his mistakes"
Stubborn troops never use other character's leadership unless they want to forfeit the Stubborn rule. Unless.. there is a FAQ somewhere that I am not awared of.
Therefore, I stand corrected! Leadership 8 Stubborn
I dont know what else to tell you ... do remember this though, executioners are only stubborn within 12" of the cauldron and cauldron dont move... so...
