Well, long time 40k player, and the new DE models won me over to WHFB. So I got the spearhead, as it came with codex, but now what? Still not sure how many points the box provides, but my friend can easily field up to 2000 points, so I'd like to get to 1000 to start I think. What would work best with what I have now?
Well, I'm sorry, but the batallion is really a better way to start an army with. You get loads of characters in the spearhead which you probably won't need for a long time. But to continue with what you have.. definetly a box or two of DE warriors, and another box of corsairs for starters. And you should think hard what kind of army you want to have, and choose special units after that.
My suggestion would be to get a battalion box set, has three core choices and a special. Big on core here. I just got two battalion box sets today, and gonna use one of the riders and make a general until GW gets some new generals out. So I am just starting also, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But Battalion, Battalion.
I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy.
yeah in hindsight that would have been my choice too, but the spearhead was an early bday gift from the lil lady. I'm sure the friendly GW associate helped her pick the more expensive box, with the included codex as the selling point. I'll maybe get the battalion box later this week to set me up further.
Yea the battallions are nice, I tend to think the spearheads are more for the veteran players of an army, including the new army book (this is fantasy we dont have codex's) and the new models for the army. A good way to bump up to 1000 is to just get a box or two of corsairs and a box of warriors. Being as you really only need another core choice to play at 1000 pts. Play a couple very small games 500 pts or so, that way you can get a feel for how the core units of the army run, and then decide on what you want for your overall composition. I personally am not a huge fan of the basic dark elf warrior, I much prefer the aggressiveness of the corsair blocks.
