Two questions...how many is too much, and what should their primary use be? I know so far that great weapons are usually the best choice, but aside from that, I have only a slight idea. I currently plan on having 2 units of 5, one with an assassin.
No matter what number you end up with always make it an odd number in the unit so the 25% panic test number will be a touch higher.
Shades are used for two main purposes. The first and most obvious is march blocking. Scout these guys ahead and let them do their job. Second, Scouts with GW are great support units. With a S5 they can even do something to heavily armored opponents. Just keep them in reserve somewhere in terrain shooting away, and if you get the chance multi-charge with another unit. I usually run mine in units of 5 or 7, it depends on how much shooting my opponent usually has.
redirecting charges, march blocking, mage hunting (especially against those T4.5 mages) warmachine hunting, all the usual stuff that scouts do, they just do it better. With great weapons, they can actually hit a flank or rear giving you the bonus and add some kills, unlike most scouts. Take 6-8 per unit.
My apologies, still very new to this game, what is meant by "redirecting charges"?
And thanks for the responses guys
