I have recently become interested in rebuilding my DE army after a ten year abscence from the hobby --- I noticed on warhammer page all the DE have been totally redone since I played, and all the models look 10x better, but to the point where are the chariots?
I went to the games workshop online store and they show them but they wont sell them, anyone know whats going on with that? is it discontinued ? plus metal corsair command group-- they show them, but do not offer them for sale.
AFAIK, corsairs now come in a plastic regiment box with bits to build command models, so there is no need for metal command models. No idea why they won't sell you a chariot, but I think you should wait for the new chariot model to release. The current one has the old (and horribly ugly cold ones), and the new cold ones look awesome.
so there is no new chariot out? -- I thought the new cold ones were the ones I saw on the chariot displayed ; but yeah new cold ones make the old ones look like playdoh models
unfortunately they haven't announced any new models for the chariot. And honestly you could be waiting for a long time before their release if they release new chariot models at all. The dark riders are still the old 5th ed model and they haven't updated them with the new elven steeds that have been around since the 6th ed wood elf release.
The fastest way to make cold one chariots with new cold ones is to just buy the old chariot and a box of the new knights and use the new cold ones on the chariot. You can use the knight modes as a mounted hero for dark riders or for conversion to masters on foot (with other units lower body) or better looking unit champs.
The best way to see what's up to date and available is to look in the mail order online store.
Sorry, I don't mean to go off-topic, but how would you make/convert new Dark Riders. I can't stand the look of the old ones, and I was think of making a unit using the wood elf glade rider models. But I'm not sure how to make their bodies =)
And I agree with you all. GW should make some new units to dark elves, even though we just got some. For example warriors, dark riders and maybe Witch Elves. I atleast hope they do something about tin models. Otherwise it's going to be expensive =/

well pretty much everything is new from when I was playing-- I think witch elves look good and so do old dark riders -- I had like 25 cold one knights from old set that look so bad; and im going to follow the advice and just mod me a couple of chariots with either chaos or high elf models
the file is your friend! file down and cut away (with your hobby knife not the sword!) any leafs and other obvious WE stuff. Use greenstuff to fill any gaps or irregularity. Use greenstuff to make hoods for some of them. Model them to hold the spears and place the crossbows (use the ones from the warrior boxes) hanging on the horses saddle. Or you can model them to have the spears on their backs and use the handbows from the corsairs.
If you've got some overflowing money you can check out gamezone miniatures. Their dark elf stuff looks great! Unfortunately you can't use them in official tournaments.
Thanks Zhaf, I will give it a try =)

Well, you can Greenstuff, as zhaf has mentioned, and this is the cheapest way to do it. Also, you can buy a Warriors box as well as a Glade Guard box, cut of the top of the Glade rider at the torao, and stick on a Warrior torso. You also get the crossbows and spears in the sprue to model how you like
The other option is to get one of these...
