Anyone have experience with Warbands? I'm just getting into playing Fantasy and my local store is going to start a 500pt Warbands event this month. Sounded like a good way to learn.
I have the DE battlebox (12 Spearmen, 16 Crossbowmen, 5 CoK, 20 Corsairs) and a Sorceress model.
I've only played 1 "intro" game of Fantasy and that was with VC, so I'm really lost as to a starting point.
12 spearmen isn't really a fighting unit. I'd bulk it up a bit , as anything much below 20 spearmen can't be expectedto win a round of combat, and in a game like this, you can't afford touse a unit solely for obstructing purposes.
But, if those are the only models you have, you can't really do anything aboutit, so I'd say split your corsairs into 2 units to maximise killing possibilities.
Overall, your army probably exceeds 500 points so maybe you shouldn't take the spearmen or something.

You could use the crossbowmen as spearelves, just put them in the middle and back ranks to hide their lack of shields or try to get more. Using the Battalion can land you with 20 spearelves and 10 RxB elves, which is a solid core of any army.
For a Warband game, you have well over 500 points and could probably do fine with leaving the Cold One Knights or Spearmen out. 20 Spearmen is a great ranked unit for cheap, crossbowmen provide some nice firepower, Corsairs rip infantry up, and COKs crush just about everything.
